Opera Gallery presents A Retrospective Journey

2014 has so far been an iconic year for Opera Gallery as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary. To mark this landmark year, we are thrilled to present our annual masters exhibition – ‘A Retrospective Journey’.

Inaugurated in 1994 after the positive response for our involvement in the Tresors Art Fair the previous year, Opera Gallery has had many significant moments and has gone from strength to strength throughout the years. In 2000 Opera Gallery Singapore gained a new key player in the company, Stephane Le Pelletier and with him, he brought new ideas that would assist to reinforce Opera Gallery’s position within the Asian art market. One aspect he noticed was the lack of exposure of European masterpieces in Asia; something he felt was a very large gap in the art market at that time. That year Opera Gallery presented a Chagall solo exhibition that received such an overwhelming response, it give rise to a new tradition, our annual Masters Exhibition that includes an exquisite Salvador Dali exhibition in 2006, Modern Masters in 2011 and this year. In tribute to the previous 20 shows that have taken place, we walk you down memory lane, with a major exhibition of masterpieces and works of renowned contemporary greats in a retrospective journey.

Adorning the walls of our newly launched space on level 4 at the ION Orchard will be works by artists spanning from the turn of the 20th century right up to modern day, including pieces by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Marc Quinn just to name a few.

With the continued support from Singapore Tourism Board, 20 Monumental sculptures will overspill on to the prestigious Orchard Road featuring works by esteemed artists including Salvador Dali, Marc Quinn, Richard MacDonald, Richard Texier, Pierre Matter and Mauro Corda.

This exhibition is not only about a tradition at Opera Gallery, it is a mark of respect for those artists that played a role in elevating us to where we now stand, and it is a platform for us to present artist of the future. Opera Gallery is delighted to showcase such an esteemed collection of artists in a show that promises to mesmerise its visitors.
