Chan Hampe Galleries presents Common Ground

It is with great pleasure that Chan Hampe Galleries announces its 5-year anniversary and the opening of a new project space Shophouse 5. To celebrate the occasion the gallery presents the group exhibition Common Ground.

As Singapore celebrates its own momentous anniversary this year, we take this opportunity to ask artists to move beyond traditional identity boundaries and consider the unconventional sites that set us, the residents of Singapore, apart and the organic commonalities that bring us together—to acknowledge our common ground.

The exhibition features many artists the gallery has worked with over the past five years and serves as an acknowledgement of their role in our journey. Common Ground features artists: Alvin Ong, Belinda Fox, Chankerk, Dawn Ng, Dyn, Esmond Loh, Eugene Soh, Green Zeng, Jason Lim, Kumari Nahappan, Mike HJ Chang, Rajinder Singh, Ruben Pang, and Sookoon Ang

“A gallery is only as strong as the artists they represent and the support network surrounding it—that being our individual collectors, collecting institutions and friends. Chan Hampe Galleries has been fortunate to establish strong relationships contributing to its stability in the last five years, ‘ says Director, Benjamin Hampe. Srecent years has been considerable. Negotiating this heightened level of interest with collectors and maintaining our commitment to our artists is privilege we do not take lightly. Our five year anniversary and the addition of the Shophouse 5 as a project space to the local art landscape confirm our commitment to supporting contemporary art in Singapore for the long term.”

The event will run from 15 August – 13 September 2015 at Chan Hampe Galleries and Shophouse 5 from 11am.
