Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2016

Chinatown’s Chinese New Year Celebration is undoubtedly one of Singapore’s largest celebrated festive occasions. The series of celebratory activities held within the Chinese cultural precinct will be celebrating the festival with traditional gaiety and fervor, as Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee (KA-KS CCC) dress up the streets with Monkey-themed designs and decorations that feature the zodiac animal of the year.

Join them to swing into the Year of the Monkey with the spectacular celebrations lined up for this Chinese New Year celebrations at Chinatown starting from Sat, 16 Jan to Tue, 8 Mar 2016. Some of the key highlights include:

Official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony

Join us on 16 Jan 2016, as Chinatown leaps into full celebratory mode at the Official Opening Ceremony which will be graced by His Excellency, Dr Tony Tan as the Guest-of-Honour. Expect only the best entertainment from the evening’s performances, as both local and overseas troupes showcase a mixture of dynamic dances, amazing acrobatics and enthralling acts!

Street Light-Up (Sat, 16 Jan 2016 – Tue, 8 Mar 2016)

Next up in line would be the annual Street Light-Up, which never fails to set the festive mood right with its stretch of beautifully decorated streets. This year, the committee is bringing in special mechanic figurines featuring this year’s zodiac animal, paying tribute to the monkey’s playful and active personality. Bringing a double dose of fun, try spotting some of the 3D monkey figurines hanging on the trees lining up the streets this year!

Chinese New Year Countdown Party

The series of celebratory events will culminate in a Grand Finale event on 7 Feb 2016 – the CNY Countdown Party. Soak up the festive atmosphere at its peak as the community gathers at the heart of Chinatown to count down and officially usher in the Year of the Monkey with a bang!
