Dulcetfig…where vintage meets modern fashion

If you fancy yourself from an era gone by, like to shop indie, support local designers, appreciate original designs, delight in individually and thoughtfully selected pieces which give a nod towards granny chic then head down to Dulcetfig on Haji Lane.

To step into Dulcetfig is to step into a world of nostalgia,  where you slow down to browse through it’s collections, where classic pieces that never go out of fashion beckon you and the carefully considered mix of items on sale mean it’s hard to leave without something speaking to you.

Owner Lovie Wong scours the region for eye catching pieces, most of which have their own story – whether it’s because they have been lovingly hand-crafted, are eco-friendly, fair-trade, or because they donate a portion of proceeds to charity. She holds the banner high for the cool and quirky ideas dreamed up by the many unsung indie labels out there.

Those in the know are wise to the fact that vintage is a rare breed in Singapore, so thankfully Lovie ferrets out vintage handbags, dresses and jewellery from her trips to the United States, Australia, Hong Kong and South Korea and brings them back to our red dot to share.

So let’s have a rundown of my top 10 picks from Ducletfig’s current collections….

Vintage bags, (ranging from $40 – $200), for those who love the feeling of carrying a bag which has already seen so many good times and is heading for more.

Cat lovers rejoice! Your favourite feline can now look more dashing than ever with these awesome little cat collars ($20 each) by Goood Pet Collars. Available in a variety of designs, Dulcetfig and Goood will donate 5 cans of cat food to Pets Villa for every purchase. Collars with a conscience! Dog lovers don’t despair…dog collars are currently work in progress.

Bring a little big of the Mediterranean into your accessories drawer with something from nomilk. Heralding from Greece, each one is hand made, one by one.  The collection includes necklaces (like these ones below), rings, earrings and hair pins (ranging from $20 – $55).

Handmade notebooks by local label merrimakers because you might as well have something interesting to write in if you’re going to write something inspired ($18.90 each).

If you love a bit of granny chic then have a mooch through the vintage dresses and do grandma proud (ranging from $40-$200).

If you love your accessories with a dose of tongue and cheek, then check out the range by Shup(g) of which two of various designs are below (ranging from $20 – $40).

What better than a cake stand full of cakes than a cake stand full of bangles (ranging from $20-$40 with 15% off until the end of Jan)?

Melissa shoes. I once got told I smelt like these Brazilian, super comfy plastic shoes which have been taking the States by storm. Well if I smell like a Brazilian, plastic, frenzied, bubblegum girl I guess I could think of worse things (ranging from $90-160).

Handmade clutches – because one can never have too many bags, this time it’s all about those from local designer Cherie Wong. Real jade bangles, cream leather meshed with upholstery? Yes please ($149 with a 10% discount until the end of Jan).

Furry feline friends, because there are three resident rescued cats at Dulcetfig all of whom are pretty damn adorable.

So here’s a quick recap. You will love Ducletfig if:

  • You don’t like shopping for and wearing mainstream/mass produced labels
  • You like the near-exclusivity that comes with cool items produced in limited quantities
  • You love to explore local and overseas indie labels
  • You love to mooch rather than partake in frenzy shopping
  • You’re a savvy shopper who loves to hunt for one of a kind gem
  • You love a bit of vintage chic but equally can swing it in modern
