Festive feasting: Christmas eats in Singapore

Tis the season to be piggy tra la la la la la la la la. If you’re a foodie – and we know most of you are – then the best thing about the festive season is….FEASTING! With restaurants all across the isle wheeling out tempting Christmas menus to tantalise your tastebuds and fill your bellies, here’s our round up of our favourite picks from this year’s culinary yule-tide offerings.

For a little indulgence:

St Pierre

Over at Quayside Isle Chef/Owner Emmanuel Stroobant’s will be laying on yule tide feastings in the form of modern French creations with an 8-course menu available one evening only on the 24th of December at $148++ per person. Featuring highlights like the Christmas staple – Turkey Stuffed with Wild Herbs – as well as Roasted Lamb. Find out more about St Pierre in our review here.

Zafferano

Expect authentic Italian cuisine created by new Executive Chef Fabio Cucchelli at sky-high restaurant Zafferano.The Christmas menu, priced S$98++ on Christmas Eve (dinner only) and Christmas Day (lunch and dinner), is a four-course set featuring Italian classics such as Salmon CarpaccioHome-Made Tortellini and Amarone-Braised Veal Cheek. Fleur de Sel

Special festive set menus for lunch and dinner, priced at $38++/ 48++ for three-course lunch and $88++/ 108++ for three-course / four-course dinner respectively will highlight this season’s fresh produce such as truffles, pumpkins, mushrooms and chestnuts at Fleur de Sel throughout December. Come Christmas Eve, the six-course Réveillon de Noël menu will be on offer, priced at $165++ per person with highlights including Chestnut Velouté and Poached Boston Lobster. Alkaff Mansion

Usher in Christmas Eve with live jazz and a 6-course dinner at Alkaff Mansion with a menu featuring mouth-watering imported ingredients including Alkaff’s Signature Prime Beef Short Ribs plus dishes typically eaten in a traditional Italian household during Christmas like Homemade ‘Cannelloni’ Pasta with Slow Cooked Veal Ragout. Christmas Day Brunch will see free flow of Prosecco and wine with over 20 dishes of imported treats including a fantastic fish and seafood spread.

Buona Terra

Yet more Italian feasting! Available from 24-25 December 2013, the Christmas Menu at Buona Terra is a six-course degustation menu inspired by the tastes and flavours of Chef Denis’ childhood memories of Christmas celebrations. Expect dishes celebrating the shining stars of the season including intoxicating truffles, Italian sausage and our favourite traditional Italian Christmas sweet treat –  freshly baked Warm Panettone. Stellar at 1-Altitude

It’s not just about the food this Christmas thanks to Stellar at 1-Altitude who is launching its Sunday Wine Lust brunch ($110++ per person including free flow of wines), happening every Sunday in December. Featuring a wine lover’s paradise tasting table of up to 12 wine labels to complement the eight live food stations including Sushi, Eggs, Salami, Festive Meat Carvings,Truffle Pasta, Cheese Trolley, Desserts, as well as the popular Claypot Chicken Rice. Find out more about Stellar in our review here.

Pan Pacific Orchard

Christmas cheer will come in the form of  unlimited servings of 4 varieties of ‘Live’ oysters, Boston Lobster, Traditional Roast Turkey, Whole Gammon Ham at 10 at Claymore throughout December. Prices range from $42 upwards for lunch and $62 upwards for dinner. Look out also for their Festive Gourmet High Tea featuring live carving stations and a scrumptious array of festive goodies (yule logs abound!) from $32++ per person.

Absinthe

Indulge in a luxurious French spread at Absinthe on 24th December with their Christmas Eve Dinner Menu ($128++) with dishes such as the Duo of Lobster Marinated and Crispy and Oven Roasted French Quail Stuffed with Foie Gras to tantalize your tastebuds.

Grand Park City Hall

For a lavish, hotel spread of all things Christmassy, from Maple Honey Mustard Glazed Virginia Ham to Grilled Greek Lamb T-Bone Chops head to Grand Park City Hall for their Sleigh Bells & Santa’s Festive Buffet, available from now – 31st December for Lunch (Monday – Saturday, 12 – 2.30pm at $45++), Brunch (Sundays, 12 – 2.30pm at $58++) or Dinner (Sunday – Thursday, 6.30 – 10.30pm, $55++).

Trattoria Nonna Lina

Trattoria Nonna Lina will be rolling out Christmas delights from 1 to 25 December including Slow-roasted Italian premium pork loin ($38++) and Pagnottella ($16++, or a full Pagnottella for takeaway $55++) – a traditional cake from Monte Argentario made with Italian figs, hazelnut, almond, walnut, organic fondant chocolate.

Disgruntled Chef

Setting the festive mood over in Dempsey is the Disgruntled Chef’ with its Festive Set Lunch Menu from $28++ which features dishes like Roasted Stuffed Chicken Leg complete with chestnuts and brussel sprouts and Braised Pork Cheeks with all the trimmings.

Spathe

Christmas specialities prepared by Chef Claudio Sandri over at Spathe will see some interesting takes on festive delights including a Turducken (that’s a quail stuffed stuffed inside a chicken stuffed inside a turkey!) Jamie’s Italian

Not another Italian you say! Yes sorry but this time it’s that loveable fellow Jamie and we all know how much he loves Christmas! The festive menu over at Jamie’s promises three scrumptious courses for $69.50++ including melt-in-your-mouth 24-Hour Slow-Roasted Pork Belly and the Heritage Potato Ravioli with Nutmeg.

The Prime Society

Christmas is about caring and therefore sharing! Just as well then that the Christmas menu at The Prime Society available on 25th December only is tailored to do just that. Featuring festive favourites, the menu ($88++ food per person/128++ per person with free flow wine) is influenced by Head Chef Dallas Cuddy’s native Australia. We’re rather drooling at the idea of having six different type of roast meats including Roast BeefSlow Cooked Lamb ShoulderMaple Glazed Ham, Roast Chicken, Roast Pork Belly, Rolled Turkey all executed with an interesting twist of which you get to chose four.

Intrepid Gastro Bar

Christmas at Intrepid is being celebrated throughout December with a Gourmet Roast Menu ($45+ per pax for a minimum of 10 pax or $60+ per pax for a minimum of 4 pax) which features festive roasts like the Pistachio-crusted Striploin Beef and the Porchetta, Australian Pork stuffed with smoked peppers, dried apricot, roasted apples and creamed spinach. Absinthe

Imagine being able to serve up festive favourites lovingly prepared in the Absinthe kitchen (and then sneakily pass them up as your own!). Items like Whole Turkey with Stuffing & Roasted Potatoes (minimum 5kg; $25+ per kg) will be available for Christmas takeaway.

Violet Oon’s Kitchen

If you’re planning on hosting your own Christmas party but no idea where to start – help is at hand with Christmas Party trays (serving 6-8 people per tray) from Violet Oon’s Kitchen. Tiong Bahru Bakery

If it’s log cakes you’re after then Tiong Bahru Bakery will be dishing out the holiday spirit in the form of their Juliette and Caulaincourt Logs. Far from your standard chocolate yule logs expect a a bright medley of summery berry flavours in the Juliette, and a hazelnut dacquoise and chocolate ganache with a subtle Asian twist in the Caulaincourt Log. The logs are priced at $45 each and available from December 15 to 31 at all Tiong Bahru Bakery outlets.
