Nestled in the heart of the Singapore’s Civic District, Fort Canning Park is where the country’s rich history, verdant nature, and culture of contemporary music and theatre intertwine.
Once home to Singapore’s rulers, colonial leaders and former Majapahit kings since the 14th Century before becoming known as the location where Lieutenant General Percival surrendered Singapore to the Japanese in 1942. Today Fort Canning stands as a magical venue for theatre and music performances – think the annual performance of Shakespeare in the Park under the star-swept night sky!
Aside from its rich heritage, there’s lots more to be explored at Fort Canning Park, such as spotting the fascinating fauna and flora on DIY walking trail guides or experience the past for yourself over at the Battle Box, the emergency and bomb proof centre that was used during the Malayan Campaign and Battle of Singapore. So no matter if you’re a history junkie or a nature lover, there’s always something new to be learnt at Fort Canning.
Admission to Fort Canning Park is free. The park remains lit up from 7.00pm to 7.00am on a daily basis.
