Hush20 Reinvents the Pop Up Restaurant Experience in Singapore’s Duxton Plains Park

Pop-up restaurants are certainly not a new phenomenon. By its definition, they’re meant to be temporal events that occur in mostly unexpected places, but Hush20 is the first that we’ve seen to turn the idea on its head in Singapore. Launched last Friday, 9 November, the restaurant is set in a shophouse on Bukit Pasoh Road, taking up the back half of another restaurant bar (which shall remain unnamed, because where’s the fun in that?).
Presenting a new menu each month that’ll run for just 20 days straight with the capacity to seat 20 people a night, the opening concept is inspired by a classic Swiss dish – the Raclette.
From 6pm-10pm daily till 28 November 2018, diners can look forward to free flow red and white wines, as well as unlimited servings of melted raclette cheese served over boiled potatoes accompanied by cornichons and pickled onions for $69++ per person. Those who’d like a bit of protein to go with the all-you-can-eat cheesy affair and opt for a charcuterie board for and additional $16++.
We also learnt that although the wines stop pouring at 10pm, guests can order a cocktail exclusive to the pop up and specially created for the theme if they wish to continue the revelry. Appropriately called The Alps ($10++), it’s a herbaceous but refreshing Mezcal-based tipple made with ingredients found near the region like Chartreuse Génépi, Campari, and Perrier Lime.
It’s not just about the food and drink either; we were pleasantly surprised by the efforts put in by the organisers to dress up the space according to the menu’s Swiss theme. Besides putting on an old French comedy (Les Bronzes, 1978) – French is one of the four national languages of Switzerland – there’s appropriate wall art and hay on the floor to invoke a barnyard vibe and to get your head in the right space for the best experience.
Frankly, we were quite impressed with the strength in the simplicity of this permanent pop-up. With a format of one dish, one add-on, and one type of alcohol served over four hours every day, Hush20 has got your night sorted, with ease. If for some reason you can say no to cheese, we have it on good authority that the next menu is going to be Belgian moules-frites.
$69++ per person for free flow mussels, fries, and Belgian beer? Consider us sold.
