You know Jenga? That game with building blocks that you often end up playing after a few too many drinks and all co-ordination is lost? During the game, players take turns to remove a block from a tower and balance it on top, creating a taller and increasingly unstable structure as the game progresses. Well, imagine a warehouse, full to the brim of vintage furniture, in a seemingly-precarious, Jenga-like fashion, and you pretty much have Junkie’s Corner.
This isn’t vintage furniture shopping made easy for the mildly curious, this is an ‘Indiana Jones- esque’ adventure for the most intrepid. Even getting up to the second level is vertigo-inducing and resulted in several girly squeals and yelps! But because we are nomads, and we are made of hearty stuff, we cracked our whip, adjusted our adventurer hat, steadied the nerves and ploughed on.
There is many a treasure to be found at Junkie’s Corner, from knick knacks, weird bric-a-brac, and furniture from all era’s to suit all tastes. Whether you are looking for an impressive stand-out piece or just some cutesy little bits and bobs, you can be sure to find it here. They have also wisely tapped into the current zeitgeist and offer refurbished pieces, of which this chair in particular caught my eye and had me once again cursing my shoebox of a flat. Absolutely beautiful and reasonably priced, if only I had the space sigh.
There is something deeply authentic about Junkie’s corner, and it doesn’t feel fashionable or cool. Of course it is, it’s packed to the rafters with cool stuff, but it doesn’t try to be. In fact it feels a bit like you’ve stepped in to a hoarder’s cave!
Prices start at a couple of dollars for the smallest item and sensibly increase depending on quality of the piece and whether it’s been restored, but judging from the twinkle in Uncle Charlie’s eye, there is some bargaining to be had here, just make sure you take cold hard cash and a keen eye, my fellow audacious explorers!
