King For a Day: Seven New Artists in Singapore

Equator Art Projects is pleased to present King For a Day, a group exhibition showcasing work by seven young Singapore artists: Victoria Aravindhan, Kray Chen Ke Rui, Filip Gudovic, Godwin Koay, Lau Eng Seng, May Lim and Bach Zainol.
The concept for this exhibition is adapted from two very curious projects: an annual group show at the Flowers Gallery in London, where they put together ten shows within a short time frame of two weeks and a project by British artist, Bruce Maclean, who in 1972 held famously held his ‘retrospective’ of the same title at the Tate Gallery, lasting only one day. The curator, Tony Godfrey, contacted seven locally based artists he has collaborated with Amanda Heng, Michael Lee, Milenko Prvacki, Jeremy Sharma, Ian Woo, Raymond Yap and Robert Zhao Renhui; to each recommend someone 0-3 years out of art school who would rise to this challenge. During the three-week exhibition at Equator Art Projects, in addition to presenting their works within the Main Gallery space, each artist will be invited to be a King (or Queen if they prefer) and will be given free reign to transform our smaller Project Room into a solo project, which will then run for two days.
The Exhibition Opening will be held on 30 May 2014, from 6.30pm – 9.30pm. The Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday: 12pm – 7pm and Sunday: 12pm – 6pm.
