Merlion Park

Nestled in the heart of the Central Business District sits not one, but two Merlions!
The Merlion’s imagery plays tribute to Singapore’s history as a fishing village, with the prefix ‘Mer’ referring to the sea, and lion is translated from the sanskrit word ‘Singa’. (A quick history lesson: when Srivijayan prince Sang Nila Utama was said to have founded Singapura, apparently the first animal he saw in the jungle was the lion – one he took to be a good omen!)
A visit to the Merlion Park by the edge of the Fullerton Hotel would not allow you to catch both Merlions (a mother and her cub – how adorable is that?) spouting water in their natural habitat, it also allows you to snag a view of Marina Bay Sands and the rest of the glittering Singapore skyline! So next time you’re in the CBD Area, be sure to give the Merlions a quick hello!
