One Mic Stand featuring Kumar
PUBLISHED March 2nd, 2014 02:17 pm | UPDATED May 9th, 2018 03:13 am
Unleashing knee-slapping jokes at each of our One Mic Stand nights is none other than Singapore’s drag queen of comedy and all things funny, Kumar. We promise you a night of face cramps and world-class entertainment, nothing less. Prepared to get your sides split! One Mic Stand is definitely a night to be watched. You’ll hate yourself for missing it.
See Kumar get up to mischief with stage guests in new talk show styled segment, ‘Home Grill’, and be prepared to get thrown off your seat laughing – or even squirming – while the comedy queen ‘grills’ the night’s stage guests. Get a little intimate and see a different side of the queen while she pokes into your thoughts on the country’s latest happenings (according to The Newpaper or 8 Days magazine) and see if you can dazzle her with your answers.
Arguably Singapore’s most famous gay icon and leading comic, KUMAR made his name as a drag queen comedian back in the early 1990′s at the now defunct Boom Boom Room. Having spent nearly two decades and counting in the entertainment industry, KUMAR has amassed a string of television, stage, and film credits.
In a time when few dared to speak about queer issues or politics, he cracked the most outrageous jokes about sex, race and government, in between sets of lip-syncing, traditional Indian dance routines and hunky go-go boys. Until this day, KUMAR pushes the boundaries of his shows by making fun of things that are taboo in Singapore.
Today, KUMAR is undoubtedly one of most sought after comedians in Singapore. He is extremely popular with the Singapore audience as they delight in his humour about their policies, sex lives and racial quirks. He gets away with pushing boundaries without the authorities having to step in, whilst still remaining entertaining.
Jokes aside, KUMAR wants to be a voice for all Singaporeans, regardless of their sexuality and despite his own orientation doesn’t try to influence homosexuality legalisation issues in Singapore.
