Singapore Lyric Opera’s Children Choir presents ‘Our Stars and Moon, My Red and White’

As the nation gears up to celebrate its momentous 50th birthday this year, the Singapore Lyric Opera Children’s Choir (SLOCC) is proud to present ‘Our Stars and Moon, My Red and White’ at the SOTA Concert Hall on 10 July 2015 at 7.30pm.
In its 50 years of independence, Singapore has transformed itself from a humble fishing village to a bustling metropolis of wide international acclaim. Modern landscapes and infrastructure have truly harmonized with the abundant cultural heritage of yesteryear.
In honour of this, the SLO Children’s Choir will present a programme based on a most iconic national treasure- the national flag. Songs will aptly encompass the stars and crescent moon, white purity, the virtue and innocence of youth and red-blooded fervour and joy.
Resident conductor of the SLO Children’s Choir, Rose Loh returns to helm the concert. She will be joined on stage by established pianist, Aloysius Foong. The concert aims to pay tribute with a line-up of classics like Look at the Stars from The Little Prince by Rachel Portman, The Man in the Moon by Marie Stultz and My Shadow by Kelly Tang, amongst many others.
There will also be a comprehensive mixture of international pieces such as Wynken, Blynken and Nod by Benjamin Kornelis, 月光光 (Yuet gwong gwong), arranged by Chan Wing-wah and Hoshino Negai wo arranged by Aoshima Hiroshi, along with local classics like Ikan Kekek arranged by Zechariah Goh as well as audience favourite, Di Tanjung Katong.
General Manager of the SLO, Ng Siew Eng says, ‘2015 is indeed a monumental year. As Singapore celebrates its 50th birthday, and the Singapore Lyric Opera its 25th anniversary, we have come full circle in having our youth; the future of our country lend their voices to the celebration of a nation’s incredible journey thus far.’
The event will take place 10 July 2015 from 7.30pm at SOTA Concert Hall.
