The Weekly Grub: 5 Things to Eat and Drink in Singapore this Week

The end of the year isn’t just about festive feastings – it’s also a time to take a break for yourself to be with loved ones. On this week’s edition of Weekly Grub, you can satisfy your sweet tooth at Churreria La Lola, or go on a new sensorial experience with the Tippling Club‘s new cocktails. And perfect for the early risers, the new breakfast menu at PS.Cafe Martin Road!

Freshly made churros at Churreria La Lola

Craving some authentic Spanish churros but worried about the calories? Get your fix at Churreria La Lola, where they fry their incredibly moist and crunchy churros in 100% olive oil, making them a much healthier alternative. Made fresh in-house daily and sold in 3, 6, 12, and 18 pieces, you can opt for the plain Classicos ($6.5 for 3pcs) or have yours Glazed ($8.50 for 3pcs) with Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate, Matcha and Purple Yam. Alternatively, the same flavours can be purchased on the side as a dip for $3 each. We recommend the indulgent Xuxos ($8), a churro stuffed with either Nutella or Dulce de Leche. Unique to the Singapore outpost is the refreshing Yakult Iced Tea ($6.50) and Pork Floss Xuxos ($8), which is filled with garlic aioli and generously topped with pork floss.

Churreria La Lola is located at 6 Eu Tong Sen Street #01-27, The Central, Singapore 059817, p.+65 6610 6802. Open daily from 11am – 10pm.

The Glenrothes releases new Soleo Collection

Award-winning Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, The Glenrothes has unveiled a striking new range of single malt whiskies, The Soleo Collection. For easier drinking, everyday whiskies, look to the light and subtle 12 Years Old (40%) with notes of vanilla, melon, and cinnamon and the citrusy Whisky Maker’s Cut (48.8%) that uses 100% first fill sherry seasoned casks. The two more intense and richer expressions include the 18 Years Old (43%) – a complex and well-rounded expression with note of vanilla, pear, and fresh ginger – as well as their 25 Years Old (43%). Predominantly aged in first fill sherry seasoned casks, this expression delivers heady woody notes with salted caramel, mango, and coriander seeds to taste. All four whiskies are now available in Singapore.

Sensorial perfume cocktails at the Tippling Club

In collaboration with Johanna Monange of International Flavors and Fragrances Inc., Tippling Club’s Chef-Owner Ryan Clift and Head Bartender, Andrew Loudon have pioneered a new sensorial cocktail menu based on fragrances. Similar to perfumes, each of the cocktails on the menu will consist of top notes, mid notes, and base notes, by fusing a plethora of carefully curated scents with ingredients in a cocktail. From floral to musky scents, experience an unprecedented olfactory drinking experience that is truly unique to Tippling Club with their concoctions like Blush of Rose, Osmanthus Blossom, Sandalwood, and Bloody Cologne. To complete the sensorial package, the each drink is presented in an ‘Art Deco’ fashion with pictures of old perfume bottles to represent each fragrance and cocktail.

The Tippling Club is located at 38 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088461, p.+65 6475 2217. Open Mon-Fri 12pm – 12am and Sat 6pm – 12am. Closed on Sundays.

A Cocktail Degustation at Telok Ayer Arts Club

Indulge in Telok Ayer Arts Club‘s newly launched cocktail degustation menu, available from 20 December to 31 December 2018. Conceptualised as a set meal ($68++ for three, $100++ for five, or $25++ per cocktail) by Bar Manager Din Hassan, you can enjoy “appetiser” drinks such as seaweed infused Sea Salt Martini and the tangy Kaffir Lime Bellini. Move along to the “mains” consisting of Red Hot Chilli Peppers – using Mount Gay rum and Maracatu Cachaca – before finishing with sweet local tributes such as the Gin n’ Roses, celebrating the nation’s beloved Bandung, and Bobowl Cha Cha. Revellers should note that there are limited servings per day of the special cocktails and reservations are strongly encouraged.
