Happy midweek, Nomads! This week’s edition is a serious dose of food porn (I had major hunger pangs while writing this) with three delicious new menus from three of our favourite restaurants and bars, ice-cold beer, and a yummy picnic basket to take with you to Ballet Under the Stars.
New Dishes at The White Rabbit
Everyone loves The White Rabbit for the lovely ambience – the Lo & Behold folks did an excellent job of restoring the chapel – but Head Chef Benjamin Tan didn’t make a name for himself for nothin’. The 60-Hour Braised Mangalica Pork Belly ($42), served on a bed of pickled purple cabbage with Cannellini beans and a rich miso broth, was tender and flavourful. The fat had the texture of fried Chinese sea cucumber without the oily, so we definitely felt less guilty. I enjoyed their take on the Chocolate Fondant ($18) tremendously. Boasting concentric cores of chocolate and caramel, it was served with house-made banana and rum ice cream, which actually helped with the intensity of this sweet treat.
Picnic Under the Stars
Got your tickets for Singapore’s highly anticipated annual outdoor dance event, Ballet Under the Stars? Well, Singapore Dance Theatre is collaborating with Cocotte again to come with a scrumptious picnic basket for two. While you ease into a night of ballet medleys, feast on savoury fillers like French Potato Salad, Parisian Ham & Cheese and Rocket Pistou Chicken (with citrus aioli, kohlrabi, and apple slaw) sandwiches. For a sweet finish, there’s the Raspberry Lemon Almond Cake. Priced at $59.90+, the pretty wicket basket also includes a disposable mat and two bottles of water. If that’s not enough, you have the option of adding on their Charcuterie Board at $39+.
Pre-orders have to be made at least two days prior to the date of the performance. Please email [email protected] or call 6298 1188 for pre-orders.
Sugarhall’s New Supper Menu
If you’re hungry in the CBD after most restaurants have closed, we have just the place for you. Sugarhall has introduced a late night supper menu available 10pm to 12 midnight (last orders at 11.30pm). The Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($14) was crispy and succulent; the perfect foil for the sriracha sauce it’s served with. We wanted to love the Sugarhall Ramen ($16) – which features pork belly, kimchi bacon, egg, and garlic confit – but the soup wasn’t salty and flavourful enough for us (though the Sugarhall folks tell us this was the result of feedback from their clientele). The Bone Marrow ($16) was perfectly complemented by addictive onion marmalade and buttery house-made brioche. But most importantly? You get to enjoy your supper with Sugarhall’s excellent cocktails!
Anti:dote Unveils New Tapas Menu
Anti:dote‘s Chef Carlos Montobbio has created an array of tapas to complement their new cocktail program by Head Craftsman Tom Hogan launched earlier this year. We couldn’t stop popping the Braised Eel Croquettes with Teriyaki Sauce and Kimchi Mayo ($14); we were also rather impressed with the execution of the Crispy Suckling Pig ($16) and how the cherry miso caramel and sherry soaked Kyoho grapes bring your palate back from the fatty goodness. If you love eggs of all kind, try Chef Carlos’ ‘3-egg dish’, a combination of Scrambled eggs, Japanese Sea Urchin, and Oscietra Caviar ($24) topped with a quail egg yolk – that cholesterol boost is totally worth it.
Heineken Serves Up Heineken Extra Cold
Extra-chilled to minus 3 degrees Celsius, Heineken’s latest innovation is tapped as a smooth draught from a frozen draught column, straight into a frozen glass. Served between minus 3 degrees Celsius to 1 degree Celsius, so if you’ve been complaining about your beer getting warm too fast – make your next beer a Heineken Extra Cold. Currently available at Club Kyo and KPO bar, please see their Facebook Page for more information on upcoming venues.
