Finding quality beer to take home and drink can be somewhat of a challenge. Yes, the supermarkets usually stock some decent, but very well-known brews like Erdinger and Sapporo…and certainly these aren’t bad choices at all. However, in line with the recent increase in popularity of craft and boutique beers, a shining beacon of hoppy awesomeness has appeared in the form of Thirsty, a beer specialist open on the 2nd floor of Liang Court.
On top of the ridiculously awesome collection of beers here, the shop itself is actually very easy to navigate. To make things simple, all the beers are divided by style as opposed to country. For example, let’s say that you know you like light, wheat beer (Hitachino White Ale, for example), all of the wheat beers are arranged all together in one area. Easy.
What’s more, the owner and manager of Thirsty, Roland is a walking, talking compendium of beer knowledge and is extremely helpful at guiding you to something you just might love. So if you get a little lost, don’t be shy to ask for directions.
As a final bonus, the beers here aren’t even that pricey. Ok, you’re not exactly paying $3 a bottle, but most of the beers here are between $7-10 and considering what’s on the shelves that really ain’t too shabby.
As for a few personal recommendations; here’s s snapshot of what I ended up taking home. A few that personally knocked me for six were the MOA Wheat Ale ($14.90), Hitachino Espresso Stout ($10.90) and the Whychwood Ginger Beer ($9.80). Just delicious and very unique flavours.
Of course this is just the tip of the iceberg, because Thirsty stocks over 415 beers! Does that sounds like a challenge? Yes, I think it does!
