The Weekly Grub: 5 Things to Eat & Drink in Singapore This Week

Well folks, it’s yet another exciting week when it comes to the food in Singapore. This time, we have a Thai street food market-style feast (which is part of World Gourmet Summit), a whisky-pairing meal, a crab-centric buffet, Australian sandwiches, and a wine picnic.

A Glenfiddich Pairing Dinner at The Belljar

Roasted Duck Breast

If you enjoy pairing whisky with food, put The Belljar – a restaurant and whisky bar on North Canal Road – on your to-eat list. Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded single malt whisky, worked with the restaurant to put up a permanent three-course whisky-paired set menu ($68++ ). For instance, it pairs Garlic Tiger Prawns with Glenfiddich 12, and Roasted Duck Breast with red cabbage mousse and juniper berry cinnamon jus with Glenfiddich 18. If Glenfiddich’s Malt Master Brian Kinsman approves (we know because we had dinner with him), you know the pairings definitely work.

Aussie Sangas and Set Lunches at Salted & Hung

Sangas - Offally Good

Known for its flavourful, contemporary Australian cuisine, Chef Drew Nocente at Salted & Hung has come up with a few one-dish sangas (the Australian slang for sandwiches) to woo us over to Purvis Street for lunch. Priced at $13 each, the cured pork shoulder and duck rillettes Toastie and the tripe, oxtail rillette, and beef tongue Offally Good sound well, awfully good. For something more mainstream, go with the Smoked Wagyu Neck ($16) sanga with slaw and piccalilli puree. If you’re not in a rush, go for the two- ($25) or three- course ($35) set lunch, which features options like gin-cured Mackerel, Lamb Ragu tagliatelle, and Pineapple with coconut sorbet and pistachio.
