This week sees the return of Asian Film Focus, SAVOUR, and the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention. Also, check out a mythicism-inspired play at ITI’s latest graduation showcase and party with deep dance duo Kaiser Souzaj.
Asian Film Focus: Youth Today
This year, Asian Film Focus will feature cutting-edge short films from South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Singapore, focusing on what it means to be a youth in today’s Asian society. With an environment saturated with media and technology, how do their traditional attitudes relate? What are their aspirations and fears? Curated by film stalwarts from each of the participating countries, check out films such as The Tiger of 142B by Henry and Harry Zhuang, Nick Cheuk’s Waiting to Drown, and Jun Sup Lee’s Before I Grow Up.

ITI presents Plaything of the Gods
Experience an evening of mythicism in modernity as the Intercultural Theatre Institute presents its latest graduation showcase. Plaything of the Gods re-tells tales of heroes and demons, maidens and warriors, lovers and sworn enemies, drawn from famed Sanskrit epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. Directed by Wayang Wong master Bambang “Besur” Suryono, expect dance, music, gesture, vocalisation, and mask work drawn from the traditions of Indonesian royal courts.
ITI Presents: Plaything of the Gods is running from 8 to 10 September 2016, 8pm daily, at the Malay Heritage Centre Black Box. Tickets are priced at $25, available here. For more details, check out the event page here.
The Council presents Kaiser Souzaj (Ballroom Records, Berlin)
If you haven’t already heard, Headquarters by the Council is the new home ground playing host to The Council’s signature parties. Paying visit this time is the duo from the Berlin underground, Kaiser Souzai, with their hard-hitting floor fillers. An unstoppable force, the pair have been making waves with their incredible remixes for artists such as Booka Shade and Dave Seaman. With an extensive tour schedule to Belgium and beyond, they’re all armed to share their raw passion of everything dark and tech with us.
The Council presents Kaiser Souzaj is happening on Thursday, 8 September 2016 at Headquarters from 9pm till late. First drink is charged at $20. For more details, check out the event page here.
SAVOUR Wines 2016
Riding the waves of its successful May edition, SAVOUR is back for its second event of the year, this time doubling in size and toasting to an brand new Wine Market that features over 400 different wine labels from countries like South America, Argentina, California, Spain, and more. Wine Tasting Cards are limited to 700 per session (only five for the entire weekend) so make sure to get yours right now.
Also making a return is the signature Gourmet Village, featuring dishes from award-winning restaurants like Bird Bird, Mitzo, The Study, and Three Buns – all available affordable prices of $6 and $12.

Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention
Whether you’re a comic book fan, toy collector, gamer, cosplayer, or all-purpose pop culture geek, get ready to be enthralled by a visual extravaganza at STGCC! Showcasing culture references from both the East and West, you’ll get to meet plenty industry veterans like comic artist Phil Noto (Batgirl, Superman, Star Wars: Poe Dameron), and legendary toymaker Jon-Paul Kaiser, who’s collaborated with Toy2R, Kidrobot, Pobber and DYZ. Also making a come back this year is the Championships of Cosplay, with representatives from Australia, Austria, China, France, India, and the US.
