Anand’s journey through sounds started almost two decades ago. Back then, it was the thought of telling a story through arrangement of music that intrigued and captivated him. His previous moniker, Presha defined his style in drum and bass but it was his first residency at AngelShare at Dempsey, playing alongside his mentor, Ramesh that exposed him to a new arena of sounds such as Jazz, Funk, Soul, Latin, Disco, and African rhythms.
He then went on to co-host a weekly live internet radio show where he dishes out his selection of tunes with partner Submerge on MeshRadio. With his current residency at CÉ LA VI Singapore, Anand has shared the decks with folks like Yass & ATFC (Defected Records), Born To Funk (Soulfuric), Ramon Tapia (Great Stuff Recordings), Jose Padilla (Café del Mar), and Jose Marquez (Tribe Records).
For this edition of City Nomads Radio, we caught up with Anand on life, future plans, and more.
Hi Anand, what have you been up to!
I have been busy playing music. And I must say it is truly the best job in the world! My residency at CE LA VI Singapore has got me playing Tuesday nights at the Club, Friday nights at Sky Bar and the Sunsets on Thursday & Sunday evenings. I’m also on rotation at Terra and Sand Bar on Saturdays.
How has life been since you got out of the corporate world?
I get to listen and be surrounded by music everyday of the week now. I can’t ask for more! It’s been over 3 years since I switched from engineering to full-time DJ’ing and I’ve not looked back. I’m truly blessed to have this opportunity to get to work with some of the most experienced DJs in Singapore. There has been something new to learn almost every day.
We’ve also heard that you’re in the midst of planning a party. Tell us more.
I am really excited to get this going. This is an idea I’ve had for the longest time now. I have been wanting to curate a night where I get to work together with other like-minded DJs from the industry. The intent is to not be bounded by genres but rather be driven by vibrations. It’s still in the early stages for now and you will definitely get to hear more about this really soon.
Tell us about the curated mixtape you’ve put together.
This mixtape was recorded live during a sunset at CE LA VI Singapore. I am a believer in the theory about everything that we have today beginning with a thought. The wheels eventually move up gears when these thoughts are expressed through speech. I have always wanted visit Brazil and Latin America. I am a huge fan of the music that comes out from that part of the globe. With this in mind, I am going to to call this recording, “I Dream of Bahia”. It is a selection of tunes from Brazil that I’ve been playing out a lot during sunset.
