Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d have noticed that the craft beer scene in Singapore is getting bigger by the year. And one of the biggest events of Singapore’s craft beer calendar, Craft Beer Week, is back from 20-27 August 2016.
Themed “The Dawn of a New Golden Age”, this year’s festival will be focusing on golden and sessionable ales. With eight days of tap takeovers, brewers in Singapore, parties, and of course, copious amounts of beer drinking, here are the definite highlights:
Sunday Beers on the Hill
Head down to kult kafé this Sunday for the official launch party of Craft Beer Week! Think craft beer and cider from the likes of Archipelago Brewery, Holgate Brewhouse, The Mad Tapper, and Thirsty Work – all at $10. The hungry can also look forward to gourmet sausages and veggie options from Sidecar Sausages and Banyan Tamarind Foods. For entertainment, they’ve got DJs and live music from a 4 piece roving band, Bari Rumbles Brass.
Sunday Beers on the Hill is happening 21 August 2016, 4pm-10pm, at kult kafé, 11 Upper Wilkie Road, Singapore 228 120.
Pokémon GO Bar Crawl
If Pokémon GO has somewhat taken over your life, there’s no better way to celebrate that then with likeminded people over craft beer. The only bar crawl of Craft Beer Week, we’ve teamed up with the organisers to take you to bars like Smith Street Taps (who, by the way, have a Triple Tap Takeover on the same day), Park Bench Deli, Freehouse, Burger Joint, and Draft & Craft. Pokéstops and lures included.
Pokémon GO Bar Crawl is happening 24 August 2016, 6.30pm till late. For tickets, please see here.
Get Your Hop on Throughout the Week
If you only have for a beer or two this coming week, that’s okay too, ‘cause more than a few bars are running promotions in conjunction with Craft Beer Week. Check out TAP’s “Introduction to Craft Beer” session ale sampler platter at $15++ (for four beers), or new kid on the block The Best Brew’s Tall Tale Pale Ale, which will be on 50% happy hour discount all week. For the full list of promos, please see Craft Beer Week’s website.
Park Bench Deli Goes Japanese
A three-way collaboration between Park Bench Deli, Hitachino Nest, and Teppei Syokudo, expect to try Koen no Benchi, a Yuzu Golden Ale brewed specially for PBD by Hitachino Nest and two Japanese-inspired sandwiches (a combined effort between the two eateries). Intriguant and Drem will be providing some good tunes in the evening.
Park Bench Deli Goes Japanese is happening 27 August 2016, 2pm-10pm, at 179 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068627.
iBrew Challenge 2016
Pushing the boundaries of home brewing has always been the goal of iBrew Challenge, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Savour home brewers’ unique creations – early bird tickets are priced at $50 for free flow home brewed beer – and vote for your favourite! Food at the event includes skewers, grilled meat, and sausages; it’s cash only so leave the plastic at home.
iBrew Challenge 2016 is happening 27 August 2016, 2pm-7pm, at Blk 354 Clementi Avenue 2, #01-195, Singapore 120354. For tickets, please see here.
