Sunday champagne brunches ain’t cheap, so when you decide to treat yourself to one, you’d expect nothing but the best. And perhaps you might just find that at Intercontinental Singapore’s newly released ‘The Art of Sundays’ Champagne Brunch.
It works hard to tick all the checkpoints. Set in the romantic, Peranakan-themed Lobby Lounge of Hotel Intercontinental; you walk into an ambience that is informal and relaxed. The soothing sounds of a slinky jazz crooner immediately puts you at ease. You sink into one of four large, comfortable vinyl armchairs that encircle one of only 20-odd round marble tables. Mm…intimate, cozy, perfect for lounging all afternoon. And the small number of tables means no fighting over food.
Almost immediately you are greeted by your personal service staff, who brings you a welcome drink and tapas with a quirky Peranakan twist. Probably the most Asian food you’ll be getting, but who’s complaining? An epicurean spread awaits. You’ll find classic brunch favourites, including seven live cooking stations of premium pan-seared 365 days grain-fed US beef, freshly shucked Fine de Claire, Tasmanian and Fanny Bay oysters, foie gras, eggs en cocotte with caviar or ‘your way’, gourmet mini burgers and ‘pot-steamed’ Australian mussels in sauce à la Mirepoix.
The foie gras is decent, and pairs excellently with the caramelized onion confit. Not to mention fresh cold seafood on ice (Boston lobsters, Alaskan king crab, tiger prawns, mussels and scallops), gourmet charcuteries (Jamon Iberico, chorizo, Wagyu beef pastrami, duck rillettes), and 12-types of artisanal cheeses. Sashimi here is sliced to order and immensely fresh. Left in too long in the chafers, main courses of Roasted Pork Belly with Caramelised Apples, Seafood Paella and Grilled Cod Fish with Nicoise and Lemon Butter may not impress. But you’ll be pacified by the array of prettily crafted pastries, cakes, macarons, ice cream and even crepe suzette flambéed at your table-side! An impeccable dessert selection worth saving stomach space for.
By now you’ll be full, happy and probably slightly tipsy from all the free-flow Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Magnum Champagne, refreshing Pink Elephant Rosé and bespoke cocktails whipped up by a dedicated mixologist. A trolley comes that prepares and serves a tall glass of Irish coffee, indeed a befitting way to end the gloriously decadent brunch experience.
The Art of Sundays Champagne Brunch is served at InterContinental Singapore’s Lobby Lounge every Sunday, 11.30 am to 3 pm at $158++ per person including unlimited Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Champagne (served for a limited period in Magnum bottles), bespoke cocktails by dedicated Mixologist, Pink Elephant Sparkling Rosé, selected house wines, Soft drinks and Irish coffee; $128++ per person including unlimited soft drinks and juices and $58++ for children aged three to 12 years.
