Galettes galore at Entre-Nous Creperie

Virtual hands up, how many of you have tried a crepe (you know, that pancake-like dish which conjours up pictures of the French countryside, or a Parisian eatery)? Probably quite a few I’m guessing? Now virtual hands up those of you who have tried a galette? A what? you say!
Unless you have been to France, or perhaps you’re actually French, you probably will have never even heard of a galette, which is a very close relative of the crepe (or pancake). And that’s fair enough.
Well you don’t have to go all the way to France to try one – just Seah Street, thanks to Entre-Nous, which specialises in…yes you guessed it…galettes!
While crepes are usually made with a sweet filling, galettes are all about the savoury fillings, and they’re made with buckwheat flour which has a nutty flavour. Originating in Brittany France, they come up super thin and lacy, and are only cooked on one side, unlike crepes which are cooked on both.
If you’re wanting to try out a galette, Entre-Nous is certainly the place with over twenty different variations ranging from more modest fillings like ham and eggs ($14.40), Emmental cheese with mushrooms and cream ($15.60)…
to something a little more fancy under their Les Gastronomiques section of the menu. Think of combinations like avocado mashed with garlic, cream, prawns and tomatoes ($20.80); Camembert cheese, potatoes and bacon bits ($20.80); or spinach with smoked salmon ($20.60). YUM!
Of course, that’s not to say that sweet galettes are out of the question, and that’s where Les Gourmandes gets us drooling with combinations like homemade salted butter caramel (which is available to take home in a jar if you happen to become addicted to it at $14 for 100grams), cooked apple and vanilla ice cream, or banana, chocolate sauce and chocolate ice cream (both at $14.90).
If you can manage, it’s nice to have a savoury one for your main, and a sweet one for your dessert (naughty we know!), though we could only manage a simple one with lemon and sugar ($9.90)…
But if you fancy changing things up, we loved their homemade crème brulee ($8.90) – decadent and creamy…and fully satisfying. We just weren’t massively keen on the serving style….
So if you fancy a casual bite to eat a la Francaise, make a date with a galette at Entre-Nous, close your eyes and imagine you are in the French countryside, and you might fool yourself…well, just for a moment.
