Hotel Review: OZO Wesley Hong Kong is Perfectly Located Between Admiralty and Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island

In space starved cities that receive plenty of business travellers and holiday makers like Hong Kong, settling on the perfect accommodation without breaking the bank to eat, drink, and explore your way around Hong Kong Island can be tricky – especially with a partner taller than six feet. We didn’t have patience for neither sixth-floor Air Bnb walk-ups nor tiny budget hotels with bathrooms that require stooping while showering. We manage to find a spot that ticked all the right boxes, the OZO Wesley Hong Kong.

Located primely on Hennessy Road between Admiralty and Wanchai MTR stations, there is a bus stop and a tram stop (affectionately known as the ding ding) in front of the 251-key property – making it one of the most accessible places we’ve stayed on the island. Part of the Onyx Hospitality group, the select service OZO brand prides itself on efficiency and effectiveness with practical yet stylish accommodations.

The lobby is inviting enough, despite some construction nearby. The anchor of the high ceilinged space is The Spot, where the seasoned staff conduct the streamlined check-in process on tables and a multitude of other services like printing and photocopying, babysitting, and laundry are offered. Guests will also find interactive screens providing information on the local area for an easier orientation.

There are four room categories; our entry level Sleep room rang in at 20 square metres (215 square feet) with bay windows that reveal the streets of Wanchai when we pulled back the blackout curtains. Our view is nothing to write home about – again, due to the construction going on – but folks looking for a a more natural inspiration can opt for a Dream room. The room specifications are exactly the same as Sleep, except that it offers a glimpse of Hong Kong’s famed mountainous backdrop instead.

The colour scheme of OZO Wesley Hong Kong’s rooms is soothing (and thus restful). Jewel-toned pillows and a wall mural of Hong Kong skyline sporting pops of turquoise accent the primary palette of white, beige, and grey. Guest with plenty of electronics that need juice will be happy to find USB chargers by the bedside to charge up with ease.

It is also in the room that we see the core values of OZO – less frills, more control, and offering quality services and amenities that guests actually want. Besides the superb bedding and good sleeps in this case, we loved the Tefal kettle and hairdryer, whose functionalities are more superior to the amenities we’ve seen in more upscale hotels. Alas, the kettle was a tad too big to squeeze under the tap of the bathroom sink.

Size of the bathroom sink aside, the actual space has more than enough elbow room. We enjoyed the premium bath amenities by Soak Superfood Skincare – think shampoo with purple kale and parsley stem body wash. I have sensitive skin, and on this occasion, I forgot to bring my toiletries and was delighted to find that I could actually use the ones that were provided by the hotel.

Unfortunately, like most city hotels in Hong Kong, OZO Wesley doesn’t have a swimming pool. If you’re looking to work off the dim sum and egg tarts, their fitness studio TONE covers the basics, from free weights and treadmills to cardio equipment.

OZO Wesley Hong Kong is located at 22 Hennessy Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong, p. +852 2292 3000. Rates start from HK$1100++ a night.
