Just Opened #19 June: 10 new restaurants & cafes to check out this month

In this month’s round up of Singapore’s new restaurants, cafes and bars, we get all excited about Jalan Besar’s latest cool kid, have some Italian cowboy action down Tras Street way, get tempted back to Dempsey with some artisinal bakery delights,  indulge in some saucy seafood and usher in Club Street’s latest place to be. It’s all happening on the Singa scene, plus much more. Check it out in our round up here…

1. The 1925 Microbrewery and Restaurant

One of the most exciting entries on our list, owing to the fact that it’s in our beloved Jalan Besar hood, when we stumbled across 1925 on a recent rambling, we were excited to say the least. Decidedly hipster looking, on the first floor you’ll be able to guzzle meticulously and passionately brewed beers fresh from the tap, or perhaps sip on a classic cocktail from their in-house mixologist.  The second floor is where the food swings into action with an intimate dining experience promising the likes of inch-thick tenderloin steaks and delicate lobster tails complemented by a wide selection of wines laboriously sourced from private and exclusive vineyards around the world. We have a feeling this is set to be Jalan Besar’s new “in” place…think we’re onto something?

The 1925 Microbrewery & Restaurant is located at 369 Jalan Besar, Singapore, 208997. Opening hours are Monday – Saturday: 10am – midnight, Sunday 10am – 8pm. For more information see their Facebook page here.

2. The Lokal (opening mid June)

A friendly café by day and a bustling bar and restaurant by night, The Lokal is all about community, conviviality and the enjoyment of lovingly prepared, delicious and affordable food and drinks. The latest resident to shake things up along Neil Road, The Lokal looks set to be a perfect hang out spot for a much needed chill, promising some all important top-notch weekend brunch too. And because the bad ass boys at our favourite CBD cafe Sarnies have a hand in this, we just know it’s going to be a good thing.

The Lokal is located at 136 Neil Road, Singapore, 088865. Opening hours are yet to be confirmed. For more information see their Facebook page here.

Hot off the heels of their recent launch of the Manor Cocktail Room, The Establishment Group (also behind Gem Bar and Zui Hong Lu) is further invading the Club Street space with their recent venture :pluck. An industrial-chic enclave taking up the former Shots Cafe space, this latest addition will see Head Chef Brandon Teo, formerly of Keong Saik Snacks, dishing up fresh, seasonal, and accessible modern fare served small plates-style from an open kitchen, complemented by lip smacking cocktails from Din Hassan of Manor Cocktail Room.

:pluck is located at 90 Club Street, Singapore, 069548. Opening hours are Monday – Thursday: 9am – midnight and Friday – Saturday:  9am – 1am.

4. Bécasse

It’s been wayyyy overdue that a new resident descends on Dempsey to inject some new blood into the enclave, and so here is one in the form of Bécasse. Riding on both the artisan bakery AND the current European wave, Bécasse offers hand-made pastries prepared in-house every day by on-site bakers, complemented by classic French and European inspired dishes and fresh seafood from the seafood bar. Could this be the place to lure us all back to Dempsey? Let’s find out!

Bécasse is located at Block 10 Dempsey Road, Singapore, 247696. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 10am – 10pm.

5. Buttero

And just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be space for yet another Italian restaurant in Singapore…or even a new entry to Tras Street…another one squeezes in! This time in the form of Buttero (or Tuscan Cowboy). The name gives a hint that this probably isn’t going to be your traditional Italian, which is confirmed by menu items like Dirty Steak, Jesus Juice (a granita of pinot noir and Coke!) and Pulled Pork with Waffle Fries. Not for those who are after a discerning or authentic Italian, but if you’re in for a bit of tongue-in-cheek coal pit and rotisserie action, cool vibe complete with street art clad walls and rockabilly soundtrack, then this might be the refreshing change you were after!

Buttero is located at 54 Tras Street, Singapore, 078993. Opening hours are: Monday – Saturday: 12pm – 3pm and 6pm – 10.30pm. To make a reservation call 6438 7737. For more information see their Facebook page here.

6. The 7th Cylinder

Instagrammers at the ready! Here’s another cafe to get your Instagram juices going – a blink and you might miss it outfit in Kampong Glam brought to you by some easy riding motorbike lovers by the name of The 7th Cylinder. Think of it like a sort of Wheeler’s Yard for bikes with an engine, where motorbike lovers, owners and the motorbike-curious can meet and mingle and share their love of two wheeled mean-machines. Expect good food and coffee coupled with the visual pleasure of seeing some beasty bikes before chowing down on a spot of brunch, a cuppa or an ice cream sandwich.

The 7th Cylinder is located at 1 Jalan Pisang, 01-01, Singapore, 199069. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday, excluding Tuesdays: 12pm – 9pm. For more information see their Facebook page here.

8. Dancing Crab

It seems that Singapore is having a Cajun-inspired mini moment, and adding to that moment is Dancing Crab, a restaurant serving country-style Cajun seafood and Creole cuisine. With an impressive selection of seafood served up in bag to really make the most of all those rich flavours, the oxygen-high prawns in the counter up front are enough entertainment alone! If you’re in the market for some Boston lobster or Dungeness crab and some seriously messy hands, then this could be the order of the day for some friends and family communal dining.

Dancing Crab is located at 200 Turf Club Road, 01-20/21, Singapore, 287994. Opening hours are Tuesday – Friday: 5pm – 10.30pm and Saturday – Sunday: 11.30am – 3pm & 5pm – 10.30pm. For more information see their Facebook page here.

Expect all the usual fantastic breads, tempting cakes and slices, huge meringues and everything in-between plus tasty brunch offerings.

Baker & Cook  is located at  44 Jalan Merah Saga, Chip Bee Gardens, 01-56, Singapore, 278116. Opening hours are Sunday – Thursday: 7.30am – 8pm  and Friday – Saturday: 7.30am – 10pm. For more information see the Baker & Cook website here.

10. Seasons Bistro

Serving up seasonal food from the Americas in casual setting, expect items like Seared Yellowtail Tuna Taco (yum!) and Southern-style Surf & Turf Gumbo. With some creative cocktails, American craft beers and boutique wines plus a takeaway deli counter for folks working in the area, this could prove to be the new Orchard hang out we’re all in desperate need of.
