Just Opened September 2015: 10 New Restaurants and Bars to Check Out

New restaurants in Singapore September 2015 - Grain Traders Cover

The single-seated, open cockpit, Formula One racing car isn’t the only speed demon in Singapore this September. From Jamie Oliver’s second restaurant in Singapore to a Peruvian rooftop bar at Ann Siang Hill, these 10 new restaurants and bars have whizzed to the forefront of Singapore’s food & beverage scene quicker than a Lamborghini.

RedBank Bar & Grill

If you’re looking for a quintessential American dining experience, you wouldn’t fare too badly with Orchard Hotel’s latest eatery, Redbank Bar & Grill. Housing one of Orchard Road’s largest al fresco dining areas, this steakhouse and bar serves up a mouth-watering range of East Coast favourites such as Maryland Crab Cakes, New England Clam Chowder, and US grain-fed Steak. If you want to catch a major sporting event or just have a tipple by the breezy balcony, this multifaceted outfit has got it all.

RedBank Bar & Grill is located at 442 Orchard Road #01-02, Singapore 238879. Tel: +65 6694 5376

Tiger’s Milk

Quirkily named after a vital ingredient of ceviche, Tiger’s Milk (or Leche de Tigre) is the first Peruvian-inspired rooftop bar in Singapore. Part of The Club Hotel’s heady list of brand new dining options, guests can look forward to a circus of South American gourmet cuisine from the ceviche bar, the grill, and Pisco-infused cocktails from the bar. Though the culinary team has yet to be announced, we hear that it’s a collaboration between a celebrated Peruvian Chef and a local cooking star!

Tiger’s Milk is located at 28 Ann Siang Road, Singapore 069708. Tel: +65 6808 2188

CATO

Whipping up various contemporary Asian-inspired European delights, CATO is the latest bistro to pop up on the thoroughfares of Chinatown. Situated directly opposite the vibrant Sri Mariamman Temple, this two-storey establishment splits itself into a dining area on the first floor and a dive bar on the second level, with dim lights cascading a soft glow over the confines of both zones. While the food generally failed to excite,  we were extremely impressed by the wide variety of premium spirits and rare craft beers. Plus, their happy hour prices ($8 for a shot of Bluecoat Gin, Grey Goose Vodka, Plantation 3 Stars Rum, and Monkey Shoulder Whisky) are a steal. That being said, we wouldn’t rule out an improvement in the kitchen as well!

CATO is located at 237 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058786. Tel: +65 8299 6434

OverEasy Orchard

With a fail-safe recipe of crazy cocktails and chunky burgers, the lads at OverEasy have expanded their horizon by settling down along the Orchard Road stretch. While the newly-minted town outlet may not boast of the same scenic view and party-like vibe as their One Fullerton residence, this fun-loving bunch have planted themselves in a prime locale at Singapore’s shopping district, and is nonetheless a very decent place to stopover for a quick bite. Or a drink or two, if you will.

OverEasy Orchard is located at 541 Orchard Road, #01-01 Liat Towers, Singapore 238881. Tel: +65 9129 8484

Raven Restaurant & Bar (Closed)

Reminiscent of a swish American Jazz institution, this new 160-seater outfit at CHIJMES dishes out a variety of North and South American cuisine kissed with Asian touches. Head Chef Sam Chablani’s creations include the Roasted Corn Niblets ($12), crunchy corn lovingly smeared with smoked sour cream and oregano, and the intriguing Roasted Cauliflower Steak ($23), where a hunk of beautifully prepared cauliflower is jumbled with a blend of chickpea sofrito, coconut cream, harissa vinaigrette, and coriander. Tipplers will be well looked after, with delicious concoctions of experimental cocktails crafted by Group Bartender Ryan Rhodes (of House of Dandy).

Raven Restaurant & Bar is located at B1-01/02 Chijmes, 30 Victoria Street, Singapore 187996. Tel: +65 8798 2724

Lokkee

Chinese take-out food is usually reserved for big Western cities, and the thought of having it in Singapore is quite absurd. Deriving its cooking style from cuisines found at Chinatowns across the globe, the TungLok Group’s latest dining establishment offers diners unique Chinese dishes such as the Orange Chicken, where dainty pieces of poultry are encrusted with batter and drenched with orange juice, and Poke Salad (pronounced po-kay), a Hawaiian appetiser that consists of tuna, salmon, and avocado served in a tortilla chip bowl. While most of the dishes served are bastardised to a certain extent, we can’t deny the novelty and sharpness of the culinary flair on display here.

Lokkee is located at Plaza Singapura, #03-01, 68 Orchard Road, Singapore 238839. Tel: +65 6884 4566

Jamie’s Italian Orchard

Laden with fresh fruits and vegetables, Jamie’s Italian at the Forum resembles a bountiful European market, with the menu featuring affordably-priced antipasti plates, delicious pasta options, fresh pizza from the ovens, and sinful desserts. Go for the Penne Carbonara ($23.50++) – think blissful chunks of smoked Pancetta drowned in traditional Carbonara sauce – and the Epic Brownie ($12.50++), where an impeccable fudge brownie is topped off with amaretto ice-cream and caramelised popcorn

Jamie’s Italian Orchard is located at 583 Orchard Road, #01 01-04, Forum, Singapore 238884. Tel: +65 6655 7676

Delicacy

A new enterprise by Food & Wine Merchants, Delicacy is a petite eatery tucked along the chic shophouses of Gemmill Lane. To foster intimacy, the close quarters of the dining space is adorned with rustic wooden tables and wine cellars, and a small menu makes it easy for customers to decide what they want to eat. Lunch sets are priced at $15, $20, and $30 respectively with choices such as Spiced Tuna, Roast Pork Belly with Chorizo, and Striploin with Fries, while the dinner menu features tapas plates like Walnut Croquetas ($8) and Grass-fed Beef Sliders ($14).

Beautifully embellished with velvet fittings and glorious chandeliers, this mall eatery runs the gamut when it comes to serving traditional Central European cuisine. With Chef Hans Lüftenegger running the show from the kitchen, guests can look forward to hearty and well-portioned delicacies such as Wiener Schnitzel (boneless meat – either pork or beef), Salon Beauschl (veal lungs and heart), and the Zaunerstollen (nougat praline concoction of wafers, hazelnuts and chocolate).
