Adapting to the food here was an easy task for me (considering I was already experimenting with Thai food in my kitchen before I moved to Bangkok), but like any expat, I enjoy returning to my home comforts from time to time. I was raised on meat and two veggies for my dinner, hearty breakfasts, and pies smothered in mouth-watering gravy. It wasn’t long before I discovered London Pie, my most-desired taste of the west and hangover saviour.
This Ekkamai-based establishment serves up awesome western grub in exceptionally generous portions. Famous for its Freshly Baked Pies (220 bt), you can also expect to find favourites like Bangers and Mash (220 bt), Cottage Pie (260 bt), Gammon (250 bt), Fish Fingers (230 bt) and Shepherd’s Pie (260 bt).
Patrons have also been known to travel long distances for London Pie’s Scotch Eggs (120 bt), Cornish Pasties (130 bt) and Sausage Rolls (95 bt); all somewhat rarities in Bangkok. For those of you with a sweet tooth, their Apple Pies (75 bt) are sure to satisfy your cravings.
My personal favourite (particularly after a night out after too much beer), however, has to be the Big Ben Breakfast (285 bt). Sausage, Bacon, Egg, Tomato, Hash Browns, Beans, Mushrooms, Toast and of course; a big mug of tea. There’s no better way to get that slightly damaged body back up and running.
If you’re handy in the kitchen, London Pie also offers a wide range of meats, cheeses, western beverages, jams, chutneys and sauces that you can purchase from their online store.
Fit for Elizabeth herself and very reasonably priced, London Pie is high on my list of western eateries.
