Machik Tibet Film Festival

Singapore will be the site of the first ever Tibet Film Festival hosted by Machik, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to incubating social innovation, creativity and the arts in Tibet. From Saturday, August 29 to Sunday, August 30, 2015, the Machik Singapore Tibet Film Festival will present feature-length Tibetan films never before screened in Singapore. Audiences will also have the rare opportunity to meet some of the most dynamic filmmakers from contemporary Tibet. The Machik Tibet Film Festival will feature leading Tibetan filmmaker, Pema Tseden, a graduate of the Beijing Film Academy and winner of the prestigious Golden Rooster Award for Directorial Debut in 2005. Through his pioneering films and tireless mentorship of younger Tibetan filmmakers, Pema Tseden has led the emergence of the first generation of Tibetan filmmakers. The Festival will be the Singapore premiere of Pema Tseden’s new film The Sacred Arrow.
The Machik Tibet Film Festival will also feature rising Tibetan filmmakers, Khashem Gyal, founder of Amilolo Film based in Xining, Qinghai; and Lharigtso, a Lhasa-based filmmaker who began in television documentary production in Lhasa and Beijing, along with her collaborator Donagh Coleman, a Finnish-Irish-American filmmaker who directs radio documentaries for the Finnish and Irish national broadcasts. The Festival will present Khashem’s feature-length documentary Valley of The Heroes, begun while Khashem was a student at Qinghai Nationalities University; and A Gesar Bard’s Tale, a film by Coleman and Lharigtso.
Machik has been working in Tibet for the past 17 years to support Tibetan innovation in education, entrepreneurship and the arts. Through its service and capacity-building work, Machik serves as a bridge and a portal for Tibetans from Tibet to the global community. The goal of this inaugural Machik Tibet Film Festival is to deepen intercultural understanding and to grow the global community inspired by the culture, land and people of Tibet.
The event will take place from 6pm onwards on 29 August – 30 August at The Projector.
Machik will be hosting a reception for audiences on Saturday, August 29 at 6PM to meet with the directors.
