Oenotheque by Wine Universe – Not just wine but quality dine!

Oenotheque by Wine Universe

I’m not going to lie, I dislike the name of this place. It sounds weird to me. Almost like a food and wine amusement park. I guess that’s honestly why it’s taken me so long to get over myself and come dine here. But since my lunch last week, and dinner this week, I am highly regretting taking so long. Despite what the name suggests, Oenotheque by Wine Universe has not just wine, but very, very good food. …..

A shining example of this is the Salmon and Crab in Omelette Skin ($22). Refreshing with a very good balance of flavours – saltiness from the caviar (exploding balls of taste), cream from the avocado and creme fraiche, and soft, fresh cold crab and mayonnaise in the middle. Very nice… And as we are at Wine Universe, pair it up with some Chardonnay.

Also well worth ordering is the Maine Lobster Salad ($32) and the delicious Foie Gras Terrine ($24) served with brioche and some carpaccio sliced figs.

Moving on to the mains, I have found the fish dishes to be pleasant but a little unexciting. Much more however can be said about the meat, particurarly the Veal Tenderloin ($45) and the Fondue sets ($32). My two favourites however were the…

Beef tartar ($40)- Hand chopped beef with pickles, mustard, spring onion and some tabasco giving it a little kick then topped with a bit of truffle oil giving this dish a very unique flavour. Tartar lovers should give this a try. I guarantee you’ll have never tasted one like this.

Lamb rack ($45)– This was perfectly cooked! Simple, with subtle seasoning, complimenting the natural lamb flavour….it was just gorgeous. Served with a side of ratatouille and grilled eggplant. Pairing these two together with the lamb is a perfect match and just adds more to the already great flavour of the meat. I pretty much had to stop myself from tearing the remaining flesh from the bone like a hungry wolf.

Despite the relatively unglamorous location of Suntec, Oenotheque by Wine Universe manages to be quite charming. The large al fresco area is great for people watching, and overall the dining experience is very positive. Good service, good food and a pleasant after-work atmosphere. Prices are a little steep but there are a series of credit card promos to help dampen the blow.
