Football matches involving Liverpool and Manchester United tend to be a combustible affair. Organised by Masters Football Asia (MFA) and Castlewood Group, this match will take place at the National Stadium at the Singapore Sports Hub, and tickets are going quick. Response has been overwhelming and organisers have announced today that they are releasing an additional 7,000 tickets for the 80-minute, 11-a-side game between these legendary rivals.
From Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous jibe about knocking Liverpool off their perch to Luis Suarez snubbing Patrice Evra’s handshake, encounters between these adversaries never fail to bring about a wave of excitement, not to mention the inherent tribalism that fans display whenever their beloved teams cross swords.
Former United winger Lee Sharpe opines candidly, ‘I think the competitive edge never leaves you. As soon as you get the boots on and step across the white line and get on the pitch, you want to win and do the best you can. There’s always pressure against Liverpool. We don’t like losing to Liverpool and they don’t like losing to us. They got the better of us the last few times we played them and I don’t know if revenge is the right word but we certainly owe them one, that’s for sure.’
