Electrolux is giving the nation’s budding bakers and competent cooks the chance don their aprons and get whisking, mixing and decorating for a good cause at Singapore’s first charity bake-a-thon from Thursday, 9 October to Sunday, 12 October 2014.
The non-stop baking action will see the Electrolux kitchen at Sweetest Moments prepare thousands of scones, cupcakes and biscuits over 72 hours, as teams of volunteers tirelessly bake night and day to show their support for the community. Open to the public, bake-a-thon participants simply need to volunteer a few hours of their time to help prepare predetermined recipes. Beginners or novice bakers who want to get involved need not fear, a team of trained chefs from the National Junior Chef Association, will be on hand for the duration to share advice on how to master the selection of baked treats.
Earlier this year, the Electrolux Asia Pacific Food Survey revealed that Singapore is a nation of aspiring cooks who are lacking confidence in the kitchen. While 93% of Singaporeans are passionate about food, 65% describe their cooking skills as limited or a disaster and 85% wish to be a better cook. Over the next 18 months, Electrolux is committed to growing kitchen confidence locally through a series of cooking demos, product showcases and hands-on cookery events, plus the sharing of top tips and tasty recipes courtesy of Electrolux Chef-in-Residence, Eric Low.

Founded in 2003, Food from the Heart is a non-profit voluntary food distribution programme that re-channels excess food items to needy families and individuals in Singapore. The scones, cookies and cupcakes baked at the event will be collected daily and distributed to deserving communities over the bake-a-thon weekend thanks to its wide network of active volunteers.
