In this week’s edition, we have an exquisite Unagi festival, a hip new tapas menu, Northern Italian inspired offerings, and sweet treats from a well-loved cafe.
Unagi Summer Festival at Mikuni
Mikuni is bringing the Japan’s annual summer eel festival to Singapore! Falling in line with the belief that consuming the nutritious, high-protein eel will help you beat the heat, Executive Chef Moo Kyung Soo will be whipping up a splendid selection of traditionally cooked unagi dishes for lunch and dinner sets. Tuck into the appetiser of delicate BBQ Eel Jelly, Eel Yahata Maki Burdock, and Crispy Eel Bone (this was so oishi!) and the aromatic Charcoaled Grilled Eel on Rice – glazed with Mikuni’s special sauce – during lunch time; if you’re feeling indulgent, head over for dinner as it includes the decadent trio of Kagoshima Wagyu Beef Kushikatsu, topped with unagi, mustard caviar, uni and flying fish roe, which is sure to make your night.
The promotion will run from 20 July to 7 August 2015. The five-course set lunch is priced at $120++ per person, while the 8-course set dinner is priced at $220++ per person.
Salt Tapas & Bar Launches New Menu
Whet your appetite with the new menu curated by new Executive Chef Ronald Li. Featuring hearty, slow-cooked fare focused on textures and flavours, you’ll be able to enjoy new dishes like the mouthwatering Bone Marrow with Shiitake Duxelle, Holland Potato and Garlic Toast, and the Fork-Tender Slow Cooked Beef Ribs. Taking the entire clan out to dinner? Check out their new ‘Mains to Share’ like the yuzu-infused Grilled Baramundi and fragrant Paella that feed up to 4 people.
Selfish Gene Patisserie’s Sweet New Treats
Whether you prefer your desserts light and fruity or intense and robust, you’ll be sure to find a favourite from amongst Selfish Gene’s new offerings. For those who love rich and decadent flavours, Ginger ($13++) is a warm candied ginger pudding topped with a luscious, sticky toffee and caramel ice cream. If you’re into delicate desserts, you can’t go wrong with ordering Coconut ($12++) – a fine coconut panna cotta with lime gelee, tropical fruit medley and mango sorbet.
Pete’s Place goes Piedmont
Inspired by the unhurried meals and bold wines of Piedmont, Italian restaurant Pete’s Place will be offering a specially curated menu featuring the best of this region’s wines and food. Have a taste of the Bagna Cauda, a traditional, raw vegetable dish of pinzimonio (Italian-style crudités) accompanied by garlic and anchovy sauce, and the braised Barolo Beef Ravioli dish Ravioli Al Plin. We say it’s definitely the perfect setting if you’re looking for somewhere to have a hearty, languid dinner.
The Piedmont Wine and DInner menu will be available from 1 – 31 August 2015.
Halia Celebrates SG50 with Orchid Tea inspired Desserts and Cocktails
Following the release of The Gardens Shop’s Orchid Tea range, Halia at Botanic Gardens will be presenting a SG50 menu dedicated to the iconic flavours of our national flower. This tribute menu will feature the refreshing Ginger & Gold Orchid ($12), a combination of ice kachang granite, yuzu gel, lychee fruit and jelly; the ‘White Orchid & Lapis’ ($14) that features our favourite Indonesian layer cake topped with caramalised banana, multi-grain crumble, and White Orchid Ice cream. Looking for something to cool off on? The tangy ‘Singapore Jubilee’ mocktail ($10) (think Red Orchid Tea, blueberries, and house-made lemonade) will surely do the trick.
