To-die-for cakes at The Audacious Cakery (CLOSED)

The Audacious Cakery

Everton Park is fast becoming a little pocket of gems these days. First there was Nylon Coffee Roasters, then the Provision Shop, Grin Affair and now, The Audacious Cakery.

Touting delectable confections from cupcakes and seriously orgasmic fondant cakes in unique flavours, to pastries and savoury items, what The Audacious Cakery lacks in size, it sure as hell makes up for in flavour and happy factor.

Founded on a philosophy of bold flavours and a twist to the familiar myriad of tastes and textures, The Audacious Cakery emphasises on stimulating one’s senses. Sharryl Ng, the co-founder and Executive Pastry Chef of The Audacious Cakery has got it spot on when she says, ‘The creation of cakes and pastries is like an art, just like painting or music. When one says you eat with your eyes first, it is never more true for cakes and pastries.”

With offerings made daily on site to maintain quality and freshness, and only a limited quantity of each product produced each day, you know what you’re getting is going to be bang on the money.

Where the eyes lead, the taste buds will follow, and given the reasonable prices here it’s quite likely that you will want to order a lot more than you bargained for! Truth be told, it’s very VERY hard to make a decision when presented with such temptations. Forget the ‘oh-so-normal’ red velvet or salted caramel flavours of cupcakes. Say hello to the impossibly light Black Sesame – made from a blend of Japanese and Taiwan black sesame seeds; or Raspberry & Devil’s Foodcake, chocolatey cake crowned with the silkiest and lightest of raspberry Italian meringue buttercream made with tangy raspberry puree.

While we were indeed fans of the cupcakes (expect to pay $3.50 for one), what really stole our hearts were the cream cakes. If you’re a chocolate lover, it would be an absolute sin to leave without ordering a Chocolate Obsession ($8.80). Valrhona dark chocolate (that’s 70% cocoa to you and I) and a chocolate creme brulee centre on a dark chocolate geoise will chase the worst of your blues away. They’re not lying when they say this is chocolate decadence all the way!

For something a little different, the Zen ($8.80) is also a sure-fire hit. Aromatic Yuzu and Fromage Blanc with a citrus centre on a jaconade sponge makes this a much lighter and refreshing naughty option.

There were so many others we wanted to try – the Earl Grey Creme Brulee ($6.80) and the mango passionfruit cheese mouse otherwise known as the Zacharie ($7.80) are just a couple of those on our must-try-on-return list. And will we be returning? Oh yes, we will, and very soon at that!
