After the ruckus on our roads last weekend, this week sees Singapore slowing down with art, design, and music taking centre stage. From two major festivals happening over the weekend to an electronic music concert, and something special for the foodies, here are our top 5 picks for the week:
For beef and vino connoisseurs – Black Market Fine Wine Dinner

For those who love outdoor festivals – Gillman Barracks 2nd Anniversary Party
Gillman Barracks is celebrating their second birthday with an outdoor festival chock full of music performances, live art installations, food and drink (we heard cocktails are just $12!), as well as a pop-up market curated by The Local People. Plus, all 17 international galleries remain open for your browsing pleasure amidst the festivities. Musical headliners for the festival include indie electronic duo .gif, pop rock outfit Take Two, gypsy flamenco group The Lost Hat and post-progressive rock band ANECHOIS.

For the culture vultures – Lit Up: Walk the Equator
Singapore’s leading multi-disciplinary arts festival is back at Aliwal Arts Centre with another round of ground-breaking performances. The theme this year, ‘Walk the Equator’, invites featured artists and attendees to traverse genres and conceptual boundaries. Featuring a one-of-a-kind market, music, spoken word, comedy, and even pantomime troupe Kini Berseri Theatre from Bali, Lit Up 2014 has something for everyone. The best part? There are quite a few free events and none of the ticketed performances cost more than $25.

For those with an (keen) eye for design – ArchiFest
Organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects, the two-week long festival returns for its eighth year with a new (and really apt) theme, ‘Crowd’. Exploring the idea with regards to collective intelligence and community capital, key highlights this year includes crowd-pricing platform Haystakt x ArchiFest workshops, Architours by The Architecture Society of National University of Singapore, and sharing sessions by Singapore’s established architecture and design firms. For the electronic music fanatics – ElectrOdyssey: Musicology
Electronic Music Lab, a performing collective based at the National University of Singapore Centre For the Arts, brings you a live electronic music journey that spans Singapore’s pop music history from the 1960s to today. Supported by live VJ-produced visuals from each musical era, ElectrOdyssey: Musicology (priced at a very affordable $15) blends samples of local pop music, everyday voices and sounds, as well as local media, is an aural-visual feast for your senses.
