While ‘professional’ musicians shun our native slang of Singlish from their lyrics, this daring prodigy applies it proudly without maiming the essence of hip-hop. ‘Lion City Kia’ and ‘Wussupa’ are just some of the titles Shigga’s wears on his sleeve (pai seh, only Singaporeans will understand what they mean, lor), cementing his lim peh status amongst hypebeasts and heartlanders alike.The #1 O.G. behind his Grizzle Grind Crew, Shigga makes light of everything from E.R.P. gantries to karang guni peddlers, while delivering it all with a rough-edged dose of spunk and swag. About Urban Sessions:

JUICE, Invasion Singapore and Refuge are assembling to create a revitalising live music series; a monthly escape from metropolitan monotony. Presenting: Urban Sessions.

Across six sessions from August 2015 to January 2016, homegrown music acts will come together to dish out distinctive live performances –with genres running the gamut from Hip Hop to R&B, Funk to Soul, and even Jazz to Reggae. In addition to being a nexus for local musicians to showcase their craft, each Urban Session will mark a commemorative event for every one of them. Only at the Urban Sessions will attendees be able to witness the release of exclusive, new material from each performer. Artiste merchandise will also be available for sale.

Urban Sessions #1 will take place at Refuge on 19 Aug, with doors opening at 7.30pm. Admission requires an invite, so RSVP here before midnight, 18 Aug.
