Bruichladdich Launches Black Art 5

Whisky aficionados would be familiar with progressive Islay distillery Bruichladdich’s Black Art line that started with previous Master Distiller Jim McEwan. Always a though-provoking dram created by the head distiller’s whisky muse, Black Art 5 is current position holder Adam Hannett’s first release of the line. Bottled at cask strength of 48.4%, the 24-years old unpeated Islay single malt has a complex nose of lavish fruits like cherry, mango, apricot, and orange citrus, alongside vanilla and brown sugar. The luscious mouthfeel is testament to the age of the spirit, with berries and melons, as well as honey, tobacco, and cinnamon on the palate. Definitely a dram that leaves a lasting impression!

Retailing at $495 a bottle at La Maison du Whisky, the Bruichladdich Black Art 5 can also be experienced at The Wall.

The Market Grill Expands Seafood Offerings

Mussels in a Pot

After going through a minor revamp – they’ve added banquet seats to host larger groups – The Market Grill’s Executive Chef Colin West has decided to be more adventurous by adding more seafood and off-cuts to the menu. Start with Mussels in a Pot ($25, 300g); the locally sourced mussels are incredibly plump and juicy, eaten easily with the well-spiced, flavourful crustacean bisque. Good for two to three, the Seafood Platter (market price, it was $138 when we went) features a trio of freshly shucked oysters, juicy grilled Spanish scallops, whole Atlantic lobster (500g, chargrilled or steamed), Catch of the Day (we got a whole local seabass), and fries. Dessert is also no afterthought with the Fromage Blanc ($12). A perfect marriage of cheese and sponge, it’s topped off with granola bits and berries compote.

Park Bench Deli Amps Up Menu

Meatballs
Meatballs

Park Bench Deli serves up some of the best sandwiches in the city, and fans will be glad to hear that they’ve added three newbies: the Mortadella Hero ($16), a simple but not simplistic sandwich of mortadella, sliced cheese, and lettuce in a caramelized onion loaf, the hand-formed Meatballs ($17) with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and basil in a ciabatta bun, and the broccoli-based Falafel ($14) between sourdough rye. Tweaks to crowd-pleasers include the Cubano ($16) now containing overnight-braised pork shoulder, smoked ham, molten cheese, and lashings of aji verde while the Katsu-inspired Fried Chicken Sandwich ($15) gives way to a butter-milk dredged chicken thigh with cabbage slaw and sriracha mayo between French onion bread.

Park Bench Deli is located at 179 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068627, +65 6815 4600. Open Mon-Fri 10.30am-4pm, 5pm-10pm, Sat 10.30am-4pm.
