It’s that time of the year again for the sweet and succulent pastries we call mooncakes! Though primarily a fixture for Chinese Singaporeans, anyone of any race and background can partake, because let’s face it: who doesn’t love these sweet mounds of goodness? From traditional baked lotus seed paste and salted egg yolk variants to the more ambitious (think durian, peanut butter, and even Champagne), we pick out the best restaurants and F&B establishments in Singapore for mooncakes this Mid-Autumn Festival.

Aside from dishing out exquisite Cantonese fare, Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel’s Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant also produces some pretty amazing mooncakes. If you’re looking for a gift, how do Salted White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Parma Ham, Pistachios, and Single Yolk Baked Mooncakes sound? Each limited edition box comes with a 375ml bottle of Perrier Jouët Champagne for the ultimate Mid-Autumn decadence.

Dean & DeLuca

Mooncakes from an American grocery chain might sound surprising, but trust us when we say Dean & DeLuca’s traditional baked mooncakes are comparable to some of Singapore’s best. The first of the lot, the White Lotus Macadamia ($68 for four), balances the mild sweetness of the paste with the crunch of fresh nuts, while the Maple Walnut ($72 for four) combines premium maple syrup with yes, walnuts – an interesting Western twist. There is also the classic Single ($68 for four) and Double Yolk ($72 for four) with special white lotus paste renditions, encased in a perfectly baked crust. Definitely worth a try if you’re looking for something new this year.

Promotions: 15% off all orders made before 10 Sep.

Due to overwhelming demand, orders are now closed for Dean & Deluca.

The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore

New to the Summer Pavilion selection this year is the White Lotus Seed Paste with Five Grains ($72 for four) mooncake, a classic amongst the older folks, though this variation presents an even healthier and nuttier option with the use of pumpkin seeds, oats, and sesame seeds. As for the signature Assorted Mini Snowskin Martini ($72 for eight) mooncakes, there are now two new novel flavours: the Mangotini and Orangetini. Back by popular demand is the Mini Custard Lava ($78 for eight) with vanilla and salted egg yolk, which we hear was one of the first flavours to sell out last year.

Promotions: For online orders, 20% off baked mooncakes (excluding Mini Custard Lava) and 15% all snowskin mooncakes (including Mini Custard Lava) until 3 Sep.

The first especially stands out for its use of smoky red date filling, which makes for a refreshing change from the typical lotus seed paste – a bold move, we must say.
