Where to eat this Christmas 2012 in Singapore

Attempting a Christmas dinner at home…nice idea but, come on now….how many of us could actually do it whilst managing not to burn the place down or accidentally poison our nearest and dearest with our half baked attempts?

Yes in theory, it sounds nice, but in reality we all know that going out to enjoy a delicious roast that someone else has cooked, is probably a way better option (sorry got to be realistic in this day and age)!

Thankfully, a number of our favourite restaurants are pulling out the Christmas stops to make sure you get all Christmassy without catching turkey angst. Here’s a selection of some of our favourites:

CHRISTMAS EVE

Saint Pierre

Fancy something a little special this Christmas Eve? Then head to Saint Pierre for an exquisite and sumptuous six-course Christmas Eve dinner featuring Warm Winter Salad of Pan-Seared Ratte Potatoes with Truffle Discs, Tuna Belly with Pan-Seared Chestnuts, Pan-Fried Lobster Tail with Smoked Apple Puree and Duck Tongue Confit and Barbecued Iberico Presa with Watercress Stems, finishing off with a Winter Forest of Amedei Porcelena Chocolate Trunk with Chocolate Soil, complete with Chocolate Twigs! If you think you’re going to be let down in the Christmas present department, might as well treat yourself with this one! Happy Christmas to me!

Wok & Barrel

Can’t wait til the evening, and need something lighter on the pocket? Then check out Wok & Barrel’s Christmas Brunch featuring Roast Beef with Potatoes Roasted in Duck Fat ($33 nett), Pork Belly Hotdogs ($13.90 nett) and softshell Chilli Crab Po’ Boy ($17.90 nett). Of course fans of the makan fret not – they will also be serving up their signature Nasi Lemak, Beef Rendang, Ba Chor Mee Pasta, French Toast, Pancakes, Fish Curry Laksa and Lamb Biryani Ribs.

Speakeasy

Get the festive spirit going in 1920s style at Speakeasy with a heartwarming meal including Turkey Pot Pie, Roast Beef with all the trimmings, Roast Turkey with Cranberry Chutney and Cinnamon Apple Crumble, for a cosy meal in cosy surroundings. Roast-tastic we say!

CHRISTMAS DAY

Violet Oon’s Kitchen

The sound (and look!) of Violet Oon’s seven hour roasted Butterball turkey above had us absolutely drooling and that was before the apricot Grand Marnier sausage and herb stuffing! Served with all the trimmings, plus home made bread sauce ($55++) finish off your Christmas meal with home made Christmas fruit cake ($16++). We know this one will be a winner!

The White Rabbit

If you didn’t get to church this Christmas, then at least you can pretend whilst sitting in the restored old chapel that is The White Rabbit. Chow down on their brunch offerings which will include a breakfast station, a seafood station, an appetizer spread, mains from the kitchen including Roasted Guinea Fowl or beeline it to the carving station for some Honey Glazed Ham and Roasted Beef Ribeye.

Taratata

Celebrate Christmas in the true way of the French, with traditional country-style dishes and delicacies like Le Trio De Noel- foie gras, duck and salmon terrine, and the one that had us drooling – Stuffed Guinea Fowl with Chestnuts and Christmas Spices finishing off with yes, our Christmas love, a Christmas log cake!
