Singapore’s Inaugural Whiskey Weekend Is Happening This May!

From television to music to mannerisms, most of us have, at some point, been influenced by the American culture in one way or another. Well, over the weekend of 20-21 May 2017, you have a chance to live out the American Dream and celebrate the warmth and inclusiveness that’s always been part of the American whiskey culture at Whiskey Weekend. Held at The Great Escape. The folks at Proof & Company have brought finest American whiskey brands, the best American-style cocktails bars in Singapore, and of course, American food. Here’s what you can expect to go down.
Start the day with a drink from one of the pop-ups from four of Singapore’s most adored American bars. 28 HongKong Street, Employees Only, Manhattan and Skinny’s Lounge will be whipping up some inventive whiskey cocktails ($10 nett) onsite. If you’re looking to experience American whiskey neat, head to the Whiskey Tasting Bar to sample the wares of Buffalo Trace, Rebel Yell, Hudson Whiskey, Maker’s Mark, Michter’s, and more. We also heard that rare bottle sightings will allow a few lucky festival-goers to sample rare whiskeys such as the Blood Oath Bourbon Release #3 and the Willett XCF Exploratory Cask.
With so much whiskey to try, you’ll need to fuel up; and nothing shouts Americana more than burgers and barbecue. Have some gourmet burgers courtesy of Blue Label Burgers (by Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House) and authentic American BBQ by Meat Smith. Don’t worry, there’ll be $10 craft beers on tap from Drinkery. All those carbs and calories are necessary for the night-long partying ahead. Expect a whole lot of classic American rock, soul and hip-hop.
Love cooking, baking, and bourbon? Why not sign up (registration closes 14 May) for the Open Division of High West Bourbon Bake Off? All you need to do is bake an apple pie that’ll complement High West’s Praire Bourbon. Attendees will be able to sample the pies paired with an “Old Fashioned” ice cream – yum!
Eating, drinking, and making merry aside, there’s an educational aspect of Whiskey Weekend covered by their series of Master Classes you could join to help you step up your game. Discover whiskey brands and their heritages with guided tastings by a panel of visiting master distillers, brand ambassadors, and industry experts. And if you fall in love with a particular brand or bottle, spirit advisors from EC Proof will be there with a retail pop-up so you can purchase fine American whiskeys, cocktail books, and even home bar tools!
