WOW! – The World of Whisky Bar at Movenpick

It’s been such a pleasure to see the expansion of a whisky-drinking culture in Singapore. Gone are the days where people just order the ‘standards’; Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Johnnie Walker and MaCallan. It’s the age of the boutique. People here are hungry for more – knowledge, and the pursuit of better quality drinks. And now more than ever there are places to get them.

A new addition to this scene is the  ‘WOW’ bar, at Sentosa’s Movenpick Hotel. And believe me when I say, it’s pretty WOW! If size counts then the World of Whisky bar leaves the others trailing, being by a significant margin the largest whisky bar in Singapore.

Ok, I know what you’re thinking… urgh Sentosa, so far! Well, no actually, by car it’s right at the entrance to the Movenpick and if you’re being a sensible chap or chapette and not driving here, it’s literally opposite the beach station shuttle – so no excuses please.

Once you’re there, it’s really quite a pleasant place to while away the evening with good company. Seating is spacious and very comfortable with an array of high tables and chairs, sofas and armchairs.

As for the whisky selection, it’s pretty impressive. It’s not the ‘largest’ selection of whiskies in Singapore, but they again, it is well over 200 and the majority are unique, single cask or cask strength bottling so it allows for plenty of exploration.

And if you’re free on a Friday night, it’s well worth checking out their Whisky Buffet. Basically, for $59++, between 6-9pm you have free-flow of 5 Scotch single malts (the 5 Scotches change every week) paired with some delicious French cheeses and cold-cuts. There’s even a shuttlebus to take you back to Harbourfront afterwards if you like.

The World of Whisky is at The Movenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa, 23 Beach View, Sentosa, 098679. For more information see here.
