Bottomless Brunch in Singapore: Wooloomooloo Steakhouse’s New Surf & Turf Weekend Brunch

Not much comes close to sinking your teeth into a juicy hunk of freshly-charred beef. And while we love our classic steakhouses, they risk getting overshadowed in light of all the new concepts popping up around town. Well, Wooloomooloo Steakhouse seems to be three steps ahead, pushing out an all-new weekend Surf & Turf Brunch with free-flow Laurent Perrier, gin & tonic cocktails made with Hendricks and Thailand’s Iron Balls gin, and beer.
The 5-course set menu is priced at S$68++ per person for food only, with surf or turf options available for the mains. An additional S$68++ for Laurent Perrier La Cuvee NV. Those who really want to indulge can opt for Laurent Perrier Cuvee Rose at $168++ and Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle at S$298++. Kids get a taste of the good life here with their very own Surf & Turf priced at $20++ with free-flow soft drinks, with classic Fish and Chips and Linguine Bolognese that would please even the pickiest of munchkins and ward away episodes of food-related meltdowns.
Appetizers are fresh and lovely, with a chilled first course of Red Snapper Carpaccio starting you off with a zesty nibble, or crisp and briny Washington Fat Bastards in Trio of Oysters. Crunchy, creamy and citrus-packed, we recommend the Salmon Tartare, followed up with a delectable Duck Rillettes with toasted rye on the side. Follow up with a heart-warming soup – choose between a deliciously thick Spiced Cauliflower Soup and or a more healthful Minestrone. A hard yes to the homemade prawn oil used throughout — they give a rich punch of umami to their dishes and stake their claim in the business of seafood.
Diving into the mains, be careful not to misunderstand the Spiced Spanner Crab Linguine — generously laden with tomato sauce and prawn oil, but isn’t at all spicy. Looking for something with more bite? Get the Squid Ink Risotto, which comes with a bed of crispy calamari with aioli.
And if you’re on the hunt for some classic Wooloomooloo action, get the USDA PRIME 6oz Beef Rib Eye with pomme aligot and confit truss tomatoes (add $20). We’ve a tiny gripe about the rye bread being a touch too oily for our tastes in the Beef Shakshuka, but a perfectly runny 65° egg just about made up for it.
We appreciate the simple desserts up on offer. Though we’ve yet to find great Tiramisu around town yet, we sadly didn’t get a taste of theirs (it sold out). The Coconut Mousse with chocolate sable, raspberry sorbet and coconut crumble was preferred out of the lot, but it would also have been great to see a dairy-free (shoutout to my lactose-sensitive foodies out there) or zero-chocolate option for those wanting a cleaner and lighter end to the meal.
At the end of it all, Wooloomooloo has proven their point that they aren’t a one-trick pony, and it’s not just a place to go for to watch the next Singapore Grand Prix, either. If you ask us, the brunch is worth the price you pay for it. It’s not mind-blowing or revolutionary, but enough for a boozy brunch with friends or family to reward yourself for a good week of honest work, or brace yourselves for another.
