We all know that everyone is talking about Tanjong Pagar but look a little further down the way to Outram Park and there are some openings to note there also. First Candlenut reopened at the Dorsett Hotel, and now Roosevelt’s. Tucked away at the Dorsett Residences just behind one of the entrances to Outram Park MRT, so you would be forgiven for missing it. But look a little closer and you’ll find the latest opening in the cafe-cum-diner world offering hearty, casual all day dining.
With a heavy American influence from the NYC-style industrial chic interior to the calorific menu, there’s nothing complex about the food here – just good old Western crowd pleasers which will definitely tick that comfort food box.
Always on the quest for a juicy burger, Teddy’s 100% U.S. Beef Burger ($20) was a serious contender for our pick of best burgers in Singapore. Juicy and flavourful thanks to a blend of seven secret spices plus all the usual fillings wedged in-between a brioche bun, this is one mean burger done right!
For a serious food coma and ultimate modern American diner experience, slurp a Salted Caramel Milkshake ($8) down along with it for a seriously naughty and delicious treat.
If you’re more down with fish than cow, check out the Truffle Snapper Pie ($19). Available only for dinner and billed as being the ultimate fish pie, this is one seriously comforting dish to sink your troubles into with juicy chunks of snapper in a creamy, truffled-up sauce housed under a pastry roof.
While the aroma from the Penne Chicken Pesto ($15) as it arrived was promising, unfortunately the flavour didn’t quite match the scent and was a little too slathered in sauce for our liking…but of course this is more the pasta of Brooklyn then Bari.
If there’s room for afters, the Apple Forest Berries Crumble ($8), with its wafts of cinnamon and seriously crunchy topping straddling juicy chunks of apple interlaced with berries is definitely worth ordering.
If you’re looking for a new brunch (or all day breakfast) spot, then Roosevelt’s provides the perfect laid back vibe along with its oozy Eggs Royale ($17). But if it’s more wine that is on your mind then with house pours starting from $11 a glass (or $5 for a little 75ML one!) this makes Roosvelt’s a worthy spot for an after work tipple or two especially if it’s during their one-for-one happy hour which takes place Monday – Friday 5pm – 7pm.
Roosevelt’s is an easy, something-for-everyone, at any time of day kind of place with a laid back vibe, which makes everyone feel welcome with its comfort food. If you’re looking for a new casual dining option, then hop on a little further beyond Tanjong Pagar, and enjoy the big easy that is Roosevelt’s.
