5 Reasons Not To Write Off Thailand During Rainy Season

Thailand’s rainy season typically extends from the months of May to October, but don’t let this interrupt your travel plans! Affordability, fewer crowds, and an abundance of rainy day activities are just some of the reasons why you don’t have to wait until the dry season to have a great trip. Plus, it doesn’t actually rain all day, and the afternoon showers can be a welcomed break from the scorching heat.

Don’t let monsoon season rain on your parade. While it does rain almost daily in Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, it rarely pours for more than a couple hours. Even if you’re not convinced, Koh Samui typically gets the least amount of rain, and from there you can venture to the nearby island of Phangan (full moon party, anyone?) and Tao.

Literally. The rainfall nourishes Thailand’s lush jungles, and we’re all for Instagram-worthy backdrops of green natural landscapes. Combined with the cool and dewy air, it’s one of the best times of the year to enjoy a nature walk, trekking, or hiking.

There’s plenty to do in Thailand when it rains! Sign up a for a Thai cooking class at your resort, stop at the spa for a full body rub-down to the ambient sounds of rain, or experience Thailand’s nightlife.

For those who still want to get outside, whitewater rafting in Chiang Mai is best during the rainy season when the Mae Taeng River gets stirred up with raging water gushing out of the mountainous rainforest – #justsaying.
