This week’s edition has us craving a whole lot of different flavours – from savoury croissants, snazzy eclairs, delicious gyozas, colourful promotions for refined European fare, and a awesome new happy hour in the CBD.
Tiong Bahru Bakery launches Savoury Croissants
Tiong Bahru Bakery’s line of Savoury Croissant
Tiong Bahru Bakery is keeping things fresh with their new line of savoury croissants this July! Priced at $4.50 each (or $12 for two with salad), the different variants are inspired by familiar contemporary flavours we know and love, like the onion jam-coated Flying Pig, xiaolongbao-inspired Rolling Dumpling, and smoked salmon-topped Jumping Fish (no Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon though). Our personal picks have got to be the Running Egg – who’d have thought molten ramen egg and bonito flakes complement TBB’s signature flaky pastry so well?
Violet Fridays at Violet Herbs
Violet Herbs Pistachio Herb-crusted Scallop
In celebration of its half year anniversary and Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, modern European establishment Violet Herbs will be offering SG50 Half Price discount promotions – entitling diners 50% off their total bill each Friday night, as long as their outfits are at least 50% violet. With irrestible dishes such as Pistachio and Herb Crusted Scallops ($18) and Sous Vide 48-hour Wagyu Beef Cheek ($32++), we say a trip down to this Tras Street gem is in order.
The promotion is valid only on Fridays for dinner (6pm – 10pm) from 3 July – 28 August.
Sugarhall Launches Happy Hour
The folks at Sugarhall have heard your prayers and answered – they’re opening their doors half an hour earlier everyday for your happy hour fix! From 5.30pm – 7.30pm daily (except Sundays), you can now indulge in $14++ cocktails like the Darjeeling Fizz with Darjeeling-infused Beefeater Gin and the Planter’s Punch (Mt Gay Eclipse Rum, Myer’s Dark Rum, lime, and grenadine). The peckish can pick at happy hour snacks such as Garlic Roasted Peanuts ($4), Antipasti Skewers ($8), and the Bikini Sandwich ($10).
L’ÉCLAIR – the New Dessert Fad?
L’Eclair’s range of snazzy eclairs
The heyday of macarons, donuts, and waffles appear to be over; and it seems like the next big dessert trend is eclairs. The offerings at L’ÉCLAIR by Sarah Michelle (both of whom are graduates of Le Corden Bleu in Paris) include flavours like Mango Passionfruit, Banana Walnut, and Earl Grey. The next time you’re in the Dhoby Gaut neighbourhood, stop by for a cup of tea and eclairs. Be sure to pick up our favourite flavour, the Ispahan (inspired by French pâtissier Pierre Hermes), which is filled with light rose cream, lychees, and fresh raspberries.
Takumen Launches Gyozas and Sparkling Sake
Takumen’s Iberian Gyoza
While we all know this Circular Road gem for offering 6 different, popular brands of ramen from Japan, Takumen has just launched a new gyoza series as well as sparkling sake that’s carbonated in house – the perfect izakaya experience if you ask us! The Iberian Pork Gyozas have stolen our heart – the only thing we’re more fond of is its rather economical set of 3 pork gyozas and a bottle of Asahi Superdry ($8.50++).
