New Year Eve parties are the ultimate in revelry – it’s literally all about making the last day of the year count. So, surrounding ourselves with the people we love is a given. But if you don’t feel like heading out to noisy, rowdy parties this year to countdown to the next, here are a few lifelines for throwing your own New Year’s Eve bash at home. From caterers to party supplies and entertainment, we’ve got them sorted.
Caterers
Don’t want to cook and can’t stand the questionable standards of food that your friends bring to the potluck? Well, we’re thinking having someone prepare the food for you might be the best way out of this.
For small, intimate dinners, we like Clubvivre‘s on-demand chef service. With a stable of acclaimed chefs and more than a 100 original menus to select from, you can have lip-smacking dinners in the comfort of your home at the same price of a New Year’s Eve dinner in a restaurant. Fans of Marmalade Pantry can look to the restaurant’s catering arm to provide posh nosh for all sorts of parties you might want to throw, be it a buffet line, tapas, canapés, or sit-down do.
Party Supplies and Props
If your caterer isn’t taking care of the nitty gritty like decorations, you can at least feel the festive spirit these style-conscious props and décor. Red Carousel has a wide range of pretty props like cake stands and drink dispensers for hire, as well as party supplies such as confetti and cutlery for sale. While The Party Stuff might be catering mostly to birthday parties for children, it’s a great place to get party essentials like balloons, affordable tableware, noisemakers, and other (cheesy but occasion appropriate) stuff.
Entertainment
What to do after dinner till the countdown starts proper? As much as we’re for playing ridiculous drinking games, it would be good to involve the teetotalers in a couple of fun board games. We’re not talking about the usual Monopoly or Taboo; there’re a host of cool and way more interesting ones you can get at World of Board Games or Toy Tag. Alternatively, a surefire way to get everyone laughing and adrenaline rushing is to get a piñata or two from Spotlight, or something better looking and less commercial at O With Double Dots.
The Boozy Stuff
New Year’s Eve is one of the most socially acceptable occasions for drinking, so if there’s no alcohol involved, it’s not New Year’s Eve – ’nuff said.
If your guests are a motley crew that enjoys a wide variety (and probably a hangover the next day), Drinks & Co stocks everything from wine and champagne to spirits, and even beer. For wine only though, one of our favourite places top purchase from wine cellar cooperative Merchants, a collective of 40 indie boutique wineries from Australia and New Zealand.
Purveyors of whiskies and fine wine would do well with getting their booze from La Maison du Whisky. This family-owned company has an extensive range of more than 1,000 products and you can always count on their sound recommendations.
Party Favours
Besides sending your guests off with one helluva party to remember, more tangible evidence of the night (that’ll invoke fond memories at least the day after) would be awesome. We love the potion bottles filled with sunflower seeds by Do Me A Favour as well as these pails and more potion bottles available at Party Monster, which you can fill up with cool stuff your friends will like!
