Whisky Live 2016 Singapore: Five Reasons to Buy Your Tickets Now
PUBLISHED September 15th, 2016 01:27 pm | UPDATED September 20th, 2016 12:57 am
Following the success of the first six editions, Southeast Asia’s premiere whisk(e)y and spirits show is set to return over the weekend of 12-13 November 2016. With a double-digit growth in show attendees annually, it’s no wonder that it’ll be happening within the spacious grounds of Capella Singapore again this year, with gorgeous views of the South China Sea to boot.
Whether you’re a whisky connoisseur or an interested consumer that’s just starting out on a lifelong journey of the appreciation of fine alcohol, this annual spirits playground has something for you:
The More The Merrier
One thing’s for sure; the folks at Whisky Live spare no expense in making the event bigger and better every year. Show goers can look forward to almost 300 expressions and over 60 whisky and spirit brands. While old, notable favourites like Aberlour, Kavalan, Nikka, and Glendfiddich will be making a return, brands making their debut include The Macallan, as well as single malt whisky labels Old Pulteney, Balblair, and AnCnoc.
Don’t forget The Collector Room, which will, once again, be playing host to rare and highly sought-after bottles from across the world!
Dave Broom on Japanese Whisky
Every year, the show brings in special guests – bigwigs of the whisky and spirits world to add a little glitz and glamour to the occasion. For 2016, prolific whisky writer and columnist Dave Broom (read his The World Atlas of Whisky) will be popping in to host two masterclasses.
In honour of La Maison du Whisky’s (the organizer of Whisky Live) 10th anniversary in Singapore, the company has bottled the last remaining two casks of Karuizawa 1965 Bourbon Cask and Karuizawa 1965 Sherry Cask. Dave Broom’s first masterclass (priced at $588) is a comparative tasting of these super-premium whiskies, which will be opened for the first time at Whisky Live 2016.
He’ll also be sharing his thoughts on how Nikka ($35) diversifies its malt whiskies with a horizontal tasting of the Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts.
Bar Trench x Whisky Live 2016
Making his debut in Singapore is Owner-Chief Bartender of Bar Tram and Bar Trench in Tokyo, Rogerio Igarashi Vaz. This moustachioed second generation Brazilian-Japanese will be recreating Bar Trench (No. 30 on the list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars) in the VIP Tasting Room, so you’ll get a taste of the original Bar Trench experience. Look forward to checking out and discussing the latest cocktail trends from Japan with Rogerio at Whisky Live 2016.
Early Birds…Save Money
This bit is a little more practical; early bird prices end 19 September 2016, so you still have some time to get your tickets cheaper than everyone else. While the general admission is priced at $99 (early bird $79) for two portions of food and one cocktail per bar in the pop-up bar section, we recommend going for the VIP Pass, which is priced at $169 (early bird $149) for one-day, and $259 (early bird $239) for two days. The VIP pass includes an express access to the event, a cocktail from Bar Trench, access to the Collector Room and the VIP Tasting Room, two portions of food and one cocktail per bar in the pop-up bar section.
Do note that masterclasses (see here for more information) are an additional $35 on your entrance ticket. Plus, early bird tickets are extremely limited so do get them as soon as possible!
Food & Whisky
This year, Capella Singapore’s Executive Chef David Nicolas Senia will be coming up with an exclusive menu for guests attending Whisky Live 2016. The highlight of 2016’s dining experience? Definitely the fact that whisky is used as a key ingredient for his dishes! As mentioned, two portions of food are included in the per day entry fee, but no worries, more food will be available for a small fee.
Whisky Live 2016 Singapore is happening 12 November 2016, 2pm-10pm, and 13 November 2016, 11am-9pm, at Capella Singapore, 1 The Knolls, Sentosa Island, Singapore 098297. For tickets, please see SISTIC.
