5 Awesome Sentosa Staycations for the Festive Season 2014
PUBLISHED November 3rd, 2014 04:00 pm | UPDATED January 19th, 2016 03:29 pm
Oh my, how time does fly…it’s almost the end of 2014 already! Seriously, where did the time go? Well it doesn’t matter, because whilst the end of the year means many things like Christmas, New Year’s eve parties, there’s one thing which everyone can get down on: VACATION-TIME!!!
Now some of you might prefer to venture further afield, but you’d have to be a loon to not even consider a weekend at one of Sentosa’s plush resorts, which seem almost designed specifically for long weekend getaways. And hey, you don’t even need your passport!
With increasing number of hotels on Sentosa though, picking one might be akin to scaling Mount Difficulty. So to help you out, here are the 5 that really impressed us this year:
1. Capella Singapore
No surprises that Capella is taking the number 1 spot. If you haven’t been there before, even for dinner, this exquisite colonial complex-turned-hotel is really something special. It’s pretty much everything you’d want in a hotel – great service, beautiful rooms, delicious food, and of course, a tranquil ambience. Even the pool seems to have been meticulously crafted by the landscape architects. Just gorgeous.

Best feature: Everything
Estimated price per night: $600 and up
2) W Singapore Sentosa Cove
The W. Okay, honestly I wasn’t a fan of the name, or the branding, when I first came across its sister property in Seminyak, Bali. However, I have to admit that the W Hotel brand has really grown on me. Maybe it’s incredibly well-executed interior and exterior architecture. Or the fact that all of their hotels almost seem like modern art galleries. Or their utterly impressive swimming pool that plays hosts to wicked parties on a regular basis.
The W at Sentosa Cove makes for a different type of staycation than other Sentosa hotels, being located in the more residential Sentosa Cove. Visiting the mandatory Palawan and Tanjong Beaches becomes a little more of a mission, BUT, there’s one aspect the W wins, hands down, is definitely food and drink. Aside from its own great dining spots, the myriad dining options at Sentosa Cove and the beauty of the Sentosa Marina is just a short stroll away.

Best feature: Dining and nightlife + poolside bar
Estimated price per night: $450 and up
3) Shangri La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort
If being near the hustle and bustle of Sentosa’s Siloso beach is what you’re after, but you still want an easy escape from all the toursts, the Shangri La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort is probably the best option. It’s location cannot be beat; step out of the hotel’s back entrance and you’re on the beach. Simply walk along the coast to explore all the nearby attractions.
Needless to say the hotel’s facilities (as you’d expect from Shangri la) are top notch. Service, room quality and overall experience is excellent.

Best feature: Proximity to Siloso beach and attractions
Estimated price per night: $450 and up
4) Hard Rock Hotel, Resorts World Sentosa
The Hard Rock Hotel first came to attention earlier this year during the epic Summerdaze music festival this August. Not just an incredible venue at its poolside, I loved the fact that the gigantic pool even had a man-made beach in one section, and a poolside bar in another!
If you don’t mind the classic American rock’n’roll paraphernalia scattered everywhere, the Hard Rock Hotel is genuinely a luxury hotel with a lot of class. It’s perfect if you’re also looking to be near Universal Studios Singapore and all the high-end fashion brands for a spot of shopping.

Best feature: The swimming pool and RWS attractions
Estimated price per night: $600 and up
5) Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa
The fact that this hotel has ‘sanctuary’ in the name should be a dead giveaway about what kind of stay you can expect.
The Amara Sanctuary is all about the ‘retreat’ style of vacation. We’re talking family yoga, tennis, access to Sentosa Golf Club, art jams, and naturally, some impressive spa treatments. Their gym ‘Aileron Wellness’ is also one of the best hotel gyms in Singapore.
This is a great place for a romantic getaway or one to chill out with the little ones.
