Election fever is gripping the nation, but if you’d like to cool off a little and take a break from all the campaigning and caterwauling, we’ve got some great events to check out this week. It’s a list designed to help you relax: theatre shows, yoga, music, and, of course, a drink or two at this year’s Gin Jubilee! Read on to find out more.

Following the sold-out success of their previous show, Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Pillowman’, catch this up-and-coming theatre’s group’s newest production, ‘The Effect’, a play by award-winning playwright Lucy Prebble. Set in the midst of a drug trial, ‘The Effect’ explores, in turns both wickedly funny and heartbreaking, the mysterious nature of neurology and the idea of true love, and asks difficult questions about the real basis of one’s emotional decisions.

The Effect runs from 8-13 Sept 2015 at the Drama Centre Black Box, with shows at 8pm from Tue-Fri and 3pm & 8pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost $35 and can be purchased here.

 IAM (FR) Live in Singapore

If you’re looking for something a little more edgy and explosive, though, we’ve still got you covered: French Hip-Hop legends IAM are performing in Singapore for the first time! Formed in the late 1980s in Marseille and led by the inimitable AKHENATON, IAM put hip hop at the forefront of French music along with MC Solaar and NTM. The band first found fame with a string of ’90s hits, including the classic ‘Je Danse le Mia’, but retain their intensity and ear for a great tune right to this day, recently playing big summer festivals and packed crowds across the US. Catch them live at the Kallang Theatre!

The event will take place at the Kallang Theatre on Saturday, September 12th from 8pm onwards. Tickets are available from $90++ via EventCliQue. For more information, please see Facebook.
