Pink Martini, the international musical phenomenon from Portland, Oregon, USA is back in Singapore five years after their sensational Mosaic Music Festival appearance in 2010. Founded in 1997, and commonly referred to as Portland’s “little orchestra,” Pink Martini combines infectious rhythms, distinctive vocals, and colourful instrumentation to create an around the world musical adventure. Elements of Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Edith Piaf, and Latin, Afro-Cuban Salsa, Bossa Nova, Italian folk, and Middle Eastern music have drawn rave reviews from worldwide.
With infectious rhythms, distinctive vocals and colourful instrumentation, Pink Martini often gives an original and refreshing twist to familiar favourites, casting a hypnotic and magical spell on music lovers and fans worldwide. It is no wonder that UK’s The Times have called Pink Martini “one of the world’s most elegant live bands” while The Washington Post notes that with their “utterly cosmopolitan yet utterly unpretentious” music, Pink Martini “seems to speak to just about everybody … from grade-schoolers to grandmothers to the young and hip and beautiful.”
Pink Martini has also collaborated and performed with a wide variety of artists including Jimmy Scott, Carol Channing, Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Henri Salvador, Chavela Vargas, Courtney Taylor-Taylor of The Dandy Warhols, Japanese legend Hiroshi Wada, and the original cast of Sesame Street. Come 2015, fans can expect to hear the band’s favourite renditions of Latin, Samba, Jazz, and good old-fashioned Pop tunes in Singapore.
