Ankara Trunk Show

Ankara goes by a multitude of names – Dutch wax print, Real English Wax, Veritable Java Print, Guaranteed Dutch Java and Veritable Dutch Hollandais. Made from 100% cotton with vibrant repeated patterns, this fabric is largely associated with Africa because of its tribal patterns and motifs. The origins of Dutch wax fabrics are not authentically and wholly African. It was intentionally made for Indonesian market by the Dutch but found a more enthusiastic market in West Africa.

Ankara is FIN’s (Finicky in Nature) third trunk show exhibition, featuring collaboration with Wabi Sabi Goods and SBTG. This year, collaboration with local artists feature products made with African fabrics, canvas and denim. Ankara celebrates vibrant African prints which are incorporated into FIN’s well-crafted aprons, bags and accessories. The brothers from IRIE will also be there to add colour to the trunk show, with ice-cream!

The event will take place from 7pm, 31 July – 10pm, 1 August at the Halcyon Building.

Admission is free.

Gary is one of those proverbial jack of all trades… you know the rest. When not writing about lifestyle and culture, he dabbles in photography, graphic design, plays four instruments and is a professional wearer of bowties. His greatest weakness: spending more money on clothes than he probably should. Find him across the social world as @grimlay
