A Jazzy Christmas (10th Edition) – “Let’s Keep Christmas In Our Hearts”

Swing into the mood for Christmas and celebrate this festive season with Singapore’s King of Swing, Jeremy Monteiro and Friends in the annual Jazzy Christmas at Esplanade on Saturday, 20 December. This year’s Jazzy Christmas is the 10th Edition of the series of Jeremy Monteiro’s collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, which has become a mainstay of the Singaporean Christmas calendar.

Each installment has been a completely different musical concept and among the different jazz styles that have been presented, are Bossa Nova, New Orleans Jazz and Big Band jazz. Many great artists who have performed at Jazzy Christmas in the past, include Toots Thielemans, Carmen Bradford,

Ernie Watts, Tuck & Patti, Leroy Jones as well as regional stars Rani Singam, Anne Weerapass, David Gomes, Claressa Monteiro and the very much missed late great Paul Ponnudorai who ignited the Esplanade Concert Hall when he appeared as a featured guest.

Jeremy Monteiro: “The concert will feature both Christmas carols like “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” and Christmas songs like “Winter Wonderland” to resonate with everyone’s own special personal way of celebrating Christmas. It also includes a new Christmas tune which I composed with lyricist Rani Singam that I have performed before but only recorded for the first time on the new album. Called “Let’s Keep Christmas in Our Hearts” it speaks of how we could all keep the feelings of love, peace and goodwill throughout the year and not only during the festive season.’ This year’s 10th Edition of the Jazzy Christmas series will showcase most of the musicians who had played on the new album plus a few other esteemed artists who will help make the concert a truly joyous and swinging evening.”

The line-up of wonderful musicians include vocalist Rani Singam, saxophonist Tony Lakatos, guitarist Wesley Gehring, harmonica player Jens Bunge, as well as Jeremy’s international trio members Christy Smith on bass and Shawn Kelley on drums. The icing on the cake is the great vocalist Kenny Washington, Shanghai-based Australian trumpeter Toby Mak and the Vocal Associates Festival Chorus conducted by Khor Ai Ming.

A Jazzy Christmas will appeal to both jazz and non-jazz enthusiasts alike who are looking to enjoy festive Christmas tunes with their families and loved ones. A mesmerizing time is planned for all concert goers in the great company of Jeremy Monteiro & Friends who will leave the audience with a glow in their hearts and a smile on their faces as they ‘keep Christmas in their hearts.’
