DOING GOOD THROUGH YOGA, FOOD AND POP-UPS

More than seven events will be held in March to raise funds for For A Golden Home, a charity campaign bringing together the collective efforts of individuals and organisations to help our needy elderly community. These weekly events range from an all-day yoga day combining classes, yoga apparel, cold-pressed juices, and wholesome snacks at The Yoga Co., to pop-up bake and craft sales bringing together popular Instagrammers and individuals.

Another 15 projects by pledgers including Wheelers Yard cafe, 987FM DJ Kimberly Wang, and Eastern Granola will run throughout the month until 31 March―the end of the campaign. Through these projects, the public can purchase laptop decals, photography prints, hand-made lifestyle products, baked goods, and even professional portraiture sessions. Proceeds raised will be contributed in varying percentages to fund the restoring of one-room flats in dire conditions.

About $13,893.50 has been raised since the start of the campaign on 3 February, with 39 pledgers currently on board. This will fund the restoration of approximately 16 homes via Project HomeWorks, a local programme which engages volunteers to improve the living conditions of the elderly living in one-room flats through proper fumigation and clean-ups, repair and paint works, and replacement of bedbug-infested furniture. The campaign also calls for donations via its website, which are 100% channelled to Project HomeWorks and are eligible for 2.5 times tax exemption. As of 9 March 2015, $15,214 has been raised through donations.
